Sorry I couldn’t be there for the show live yesterday, work is getting crazy this time of year (the fun a retail) so I had an early night. Probably the same next week when I start my 4am shifts. I’m around half way through watching the video now and enjoying the pegging and salt, lol. I’ve heard how much 9th age is for the dedicated. Those speed paint pens look interesting don’t they. Goobertown did an interesting video on them.

If you mean the pan shots of the tables it's probably caused by me slowing down a too fast pan and my 'free' video editor' just duplicating frames. Hope it didn't spoil the video too much.

To recap my chat: Who ever holds the rights to the Star Wars games at Embracer/Asmodee/AMG/FGG started doing big mistakes by plonking SW:L, X-Wing and Armada over to AMG. I get the "business end decision" on it (after all AMG was a "miniatures game only" company at the time but I feel that is where the real trouble started. The team at AMG didn't really get any bigger but suddenly had 4 instead of 1 game to take care of. And their "first" action was to put Armada "on hold". After that new releases and supply gradually got worse and worse. And to top it all off some "genius" decided "hey, we can't handle 4 games at once, lets do another! And make it eat into the profit of all other games we have". Like the mechanics of M:CP but don't like comics? Have a Shattnerpoint! Love SW:L type battles but 500 points is still to big a battle? Shattnerpoint! And the weird flying games, nobody is playing them anymore anyhow, right? Let's just let them suffocate. And then there is the problem with the ex-FFG games themselves being cluttered to death with new keywords, special rules and weird release policies. "You want *that* card? well you need to buy *this* ship because no other release will have this card!" X-Wing and Armada have been taken behind the shed and shot officially. It would be nice if the rule set would be released into some sort of community curated "Creative Commons" licence. SW:L should be put in a new home with a company that's focusing on games like Legion. I still hope that the new kits with core troops finally on sprues and not in little plastic bags will grant the game more creative freedom in building minis. And while we're at it: a 6 to 10mm EPIC game would be fantastic IMHO. AT-AT fighting airspeeders. Gungang boom catapults on giant creatures fighting hordes of droids. There are still so many untapped resources in the Expanded Universe and within the current universe. EPIC game could also include X-Wing minis. Air cover, attack runs... But all that needs a dedicated team and must not be done by a team that has it's head so far up it's own rear end that it's only really seem to care about their own rule set for M:CP and SW:S My two cents.

So positiv customer service. One event that is a bit long ago was when @FantasyFlightGames1 still sold Warhammer RPG books. I asked them if they would do support for local hobby clubs thinking I'd get some PDF or stickers or something small. What I ended up with was *multiple* full sized Rulebooks (with small blemishes) send from the US to Germany. Top Notch! The other I can remember was (again) a @FantasyFlightGames1 game but customer service by the German distributor Heidelberger Spieleverlag (what is now @AsmodeeDe ) Parts for my X-Wing was missing and I got them send right away. And three times the charm: Star Wars: Legion - my Imperial guard box was missing a body and had a second double. New mini incoming no questions asked. Again with @AsmodeeDe some years ago. Honorable mention: @TheArmyPainter customer support team. Every email I send them with critic, praise, questions or suggestions got a reply by a human. That's it for the moment.

I'm going to put another vote on the pile against IgoUgo. Plenty of systems have both streamlined methods of unit activation but also some little tricks to activate more than one unit or units out of turn and it can keep both players engaged through the entire game. I disagree on the "two roll" system, I think it eliminates some granularity. If a model has certain equipment like an anti-tank gun then it really is a disservice to some players if all it does is adding a few dice to an attack roll. This is not to say that we should be singing "roll, roll, roll your dice" (shoutout to HansGrabber in the chat for that), but I feel four rolls is plenty. Two for the attacker, two for defender. Agree on random movement. Basic movement should be clear. For movements like difficult/dangerous terrain movements I had been homebrewing the option to take a flat, reduced movement, OR to roll and attempt to move further with added risk. One thing I would like to never see again are specific measurement templates. I don't want to have to remember what stick is for what movement or what bit of plastic is supposed to emulate what kind of explosion, especially if the things are both fragile and expensive. The maneuvering sticks for X-Wing were particularly ridiculous. We can just measure however many inches and make 45 and 90 degree turns as needed, like in Battlefleet Gothic.
@yellowbellytabletop
@yellowbellytabletop 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the input. Gamification often compromises simulation, as in the loss of granularity you describe. For me the call falls on the side of game flow and pace but it's totally reasonable to want things on the crunchier side for personal taste.

Agree with random movement of player-controlled models. Random movement of fanatics in TOW is funny. Random movement of squigs and manglers is broken in TOW and needs to be corrected soon. It is the most unfun interaction in the game.

Greetings! Great program, gentlemen! I enjoyed the extensive discussion, and the back and forth about potential rule mechanics and their implications for game-play in Bolt Action. Your music soundtrack bangs as well! Your program was excellent! I have also subscribed, and *Liked*. I am a trained Historian, so I always favour a more historically-based game. I also agree, the Tournament wankers can get a bit outlandish. Trying to "Min-Max" the point mechanics does not inspire me at all, even though I very much can appreciate a competitive spirit. I think it is far more challenging to build a historical based force, and set yourself about seeking to win a game based upon more or less real historical dynamics. Keep up the good work! @@yellowbellytabletop Good Morning! Yes, Yellowbellytabletop, your program is fun! Thank you for the kind welcome. Yeah, as for input. Arrgghhh. *Laughing* I love Bolt Action, but there are some elements that really annoy me. Before studying history, I served as a machine gunner in the US Marine Corps. So, yes, I am biased. But damn, machine guns are *brutal* Historically, entire companies were paralyzed by just one machine-gun team or two. Machine gunners inflicted enormous casualties in many battles, and inspired great fear amongst any kind of troops. So, that's one thing I chew on. Another, is this weird dynamic where--you were chewing on this precisely too!--the idea of in Tournaments they take some jerky stupid unit and somehow, through mechanics, point costs, and restrictions, manages to be this weirdly uber-effective unit. Bamboo Spearmen, Horse Cavalry, baby Light Tanks, geesus, you know? Even the feared Banzai Charges. Initially they were feared--but most of the time, the Banzai Charges were ruthlessly mowed down with horrific casualties. Cavalry? Mowed down. Baby Light Tanks? They better bring some heavy back up, or overwhelming artillery support--or the Baby Light Tanks get stomped, and stomped hard. That is why everyone knew to get anything done--you needed some real tanks. Sherman, Panzer IV, Matilda, T-34, KV, and so on. Not saying that Baby Light Tanks don't have their place, but this idea that Medium Tanks or Heavy Tanks are inferior and something to laugh at--that is just wrong in my book, you know? So, yes. I will have more to say in the future for sure! Semper Fidelis, SHARK

Rubbing in different colours of pastel into some of bridge flag stones would make them less uniform. Glad you think Battletech on hexes is a boardgame (I didn't see Tim disagree). Late to the party on this but in terms of dungeon crawlers if you don't mind a bit of reading the Dungeon Crawl Collector thread on the BGG forums is a decent one-stop shop to take a look at for a wide range of reviews. If that's too much like hard work though here's a few broad suggestions, most have campaigns of sorts and I've tried to suggest a bunch of different themes depending upon what might float your boats; *Level 7 Omega Protocol* - Sci-Fi / X-Com themed 1 vs Many. 37 models in the base game so not too much painting to commit to. Generally considered quite well balanced. *Imperial Assault* - Star Wars themed 1 vs Many or Co-op (using an app). Fantasy Flight game so there's tons of expansions and character packs should you want to go down the rabbit hole. *Shadows of Brimstone* - Weird West themed co-op. Again buckets of different core sets, expansions & enemy packs available (for campaign play the 'Frontier Town' or equivalent expansion for each core set really adds a lot). Very dice / randomness heavy so if you're not ok with that may be worth steering clear. *League of Dungeoneers (Kickstarter only) / Dungeoneers* - Fantasy themed co-op. A little different as this was originally just a PDF rulebook on DriveThruRPG as Dungeoneers (sadly no longer available) before the creator took it to kickstarter with a slight name change as a complete boxed game with tiles & standees. Hits a lot of Warhammer Quest vibes with character creation, random dungeon generation and decks for items, treasure and suchlike. Would probably work well with the OG Dungeon Saga. Feel free to tap me up on OTT (elmrr) if you'd be interested in this.
