Thanks for the video - it's great to hear of your experience. I came here from your comment on a Scotty Kilmer rant about EV's. There are myths on both sides of the EV debate. A few observations/responses: 1. If you are charging overnight, how is your electricity is coming from solar? From a CO2 perspective, if you are relying on gas, you are still emitting CO2 to recharge. Per mile it's still less CO2 than an ICE car though. 2. I've never heard anyone say that EV's are slow! The instant torque for acceleration is one of the EV cars best features. That said, sometimes on the highways in Australia, you will find EV's tootling along well below the speed limit, presumably because there are big distances to cover and there can be anxiety about range. It seems that there is a relatively big range effect in an EV between 60 mph and 70 mph, whereas some ICE cars are actually more efficient at the higher speed. 3. Yes, reports state that ICE catches fire more frequently than BEV. However those reports are flawed, because they do not adjust for the age of the fleet (decades old for many ICE cars) or the cause of the fire (e.g. arson). Nevertheless, let's accept that BEV's catch fire less frequently than ICEV's. The problem is that BEV Lithium-ion fires are much hotter and burn longer than ICE fires. They are also self-oxidising, so they are more difficult to extinguish. 4. Charging at home will generally be very convenient, and is a real time saver for a commuter EV. On the open road, it is annoying to have to stop at locations chosen to suit the car, rather than going to the place that suits you. (Yes, I speak from experience). 5. EV's are comparatively expensive to buy (new) and to insure (new or used). New EV's also tend to depreciate more rapidly, which can improve the value proposition of used EV's. They are generally cheaper to operate - in part because of the huge amount of tax built into petrol prices, but also because they are more efficient and require less frequent maintenance. The tax credits are part of the governments coercion to push people into EV's.... which is one of the things that build resentment. 6. Battery failure is a legitimate concern. Perhaps it is overblown on the basis of time and distance... but one quick watch of "Wham, Bam, Teslacam" shows that many Tesla's are written off very quickly when there is an accident, because of the risk of damage to the battery, and the serious consequences if a damaged unit is not replaced. My opinion is that EV's do some things very well (especially urban commuting), and other things less well (long trips or towing or being "fun" to drive). People should be free to choose rather than being pushed into a particular technology. I'd love to see more small and light EV's. that could be used as urban runabouts, rather than the 2+ tonne large vehicles that many manufacturers are churning out.

Wow, very detailed response. I’ll try to answer a few questions. I drive 104 miles a day and I get home at about 4 o’clock so I get a few hours of charging with my solar panels. My meter spins backwards so at night is probably my natural gas plant From Duke energy that’s giving us power. As far as slow EV they Nissan leaf comes to mind. Now as far as maintenance and longevity goes my 13-year-old Tesla and I are doing a 500 mile road trip this weekend on the supercharger network. With 181,000 miles it’s been rocksolid reliable. In 2019 I paid $29,000 for this model S and it’s been the best car I’ve ever owned in 51 years. You really should get out there and experience. It’s such a different way of driving. It’s never left me stranded.

The Type "A" batteries were limited to 90KW so I think it is interesting that you got 100 for any length of time. I would rather have the batteries last than Fast SC. But I have a Model 3 that charges a lot faster. If tesla wanted to stick it to the free SC cars they would not have offered a Transfer option to a New MS or MY that can charge at 250kw. . I bought a 2013 60 last November for My wife to have as a daily driver. After getting 250kw+ charging speeds in my 2018 M3LR a short trip we took was tedious at best with only 78kw max at 20 to 25% and dropping to 40kw by the time we hit 55% SOC. All the circulation pumps for the battery glycol system were replaced after all 3 had failed and the battery would over heat within 25 miles of driving. It's great now. Just not quick at charging. PS we love the car and charging at home is a breeze.

Only on the performance models. On the very early versions like mine it was the same subframe. About 450 hp versus the normal 300 hp of the regular motor. In today’s market, I would probably get at least a 2015 with auto pilot. If you do want to go with one that old just know that you’re taking a risk. @@BryceLovesTech I also don’t mind not having auto pilot. I just like the performance and lack of maintenance plus the saving aspect of it instead of having a car where something breaks down and having it affect the rest of the components. I started with a Beam and IKEA Symfonisk bookshelf speakers on a LG OLED 55C1 in my office. I added the Gen 3 Sub about a year later. The Sonos system sounded better than my Nakamichi 7.2.4 system in my main TV room with an LG OLED 77C1. We ended up watching more TV/movies with Sonos because of the better sounding system. I eventually upgraded the main TV room to the Arc, dual Gen 3 subs, and Fives as rear surrounds (upgrade was before the Era 100/300 were available). The HUGE bonus for me with Sonos are ease of use, mixing/match speakers to my needs/budget, and ability to move components to other parts of the home as needed (TV surround or stand alone for whole house audio). I can't upgrade or re-use the individual components from my old Nakamichi system.
