The author hasn't issued an official translation, and most probably won't, since he had lost the rights to the book and the universe, but the fanbase came up with two translations of their own (you can find them in the description)

-Tonight he falls asleep in the station toilet, in a cube with paper-thin walls. He has curled up against the wall, the door is locked. His body is covered with a tricolour shroud, ragged from time. Strands sweep the floor as the man tosses and turns. He can’t sleep, something is wrong. Something is very wrong. “Speak, you always have such cool presentations. In history and natural science…” The man opens his eyes and looks into a blank face, smooth blonde hair falling onto the tile floor. The child lies asleep in front of him. Doesn’t breathe, doesn’t smell. “Where are you?” A low vibration, the invisible companion doesn’t answer. Khan curls up as tightly as he can, but the cold doesn’t leave his bones. He repeats: “I’m at the end of the world. I’m at the end of the world.”- ...yeah, I think Khan pretty much dies at the end

Great video! I read the book last year after playing the game for the first time and falling in love with the world of DE. For me, it's the best, most fascinating exaple of fiction world-building I've ever stumbled upon. Honestly, at this point I would both die and kill for a another game/novel/short story/literally anything set in the world of Elysium. Anyway, after reading the book I was supposed to look up some videos or essays on it to kind of sort out the plot in my head (as by the end of the book I felt kind of lost), but ultimately never did that. This is the first video I've watched about the book and you've managed to explain it really well, so thanks for that! I also really appreciate you listing confirmed and possible inspirations for characters, events, and plot aspects of both the book and the game. I'll definitely be checking them out in the future!

Here after watching your previous tierlist video! Love your analysis, and I'm just going to add some of my boring thoughts I always liked Ravioli, but I always felt weird about Rob's vocal. But now that you said it out loud, yeeeah, it seems it was autotuned. Unpopular opinion here, but I really don't like "First of October" (the song). The lyrics and the melody both seem very corny. I'm not a fan of this "meta" kind of lyrics. When you record an album in a day, and the song lyrics are about how you're recording an album in a day... it makes me cringe a bit, I don't know. "Don't Go" - still my huge favourite... Yeah, I love Rob's numbers from the previous album too (not too much into the "country" stuff though), and I have to say I greatly enjoyed "Round 6". I never quite connected FoO with Song Generator. I enjoy Song Generator a lot. But it's quite funny that I actually skipped the murderous kittens video! I just wasn't feeling it, so I stopped watching. It wasn't a conscious thing really, but now that you've said it... yeah, I guess it's just because it was something pretending to be funny while not really being funny. ........I always wondered why Andrew sounded like... so old on "Pink Fluffy Unicorns"
@idlehi16 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Now that you mention it I don’t actually know if its Andrew singing on pink fluffy unicorns, maybe he pitch shifted his voice but it could be someone else singing too?
@LychkovIA16 күн бұрын
@@idlehi I doubt he'd have another singer uncredited, so my guess is pitch shifting! Sounds cool though, like a 90s whimsical movie narrator (very random comparison) One thing I forgot to mention in response to your tier list is that I actually really like "Possible Band Names". IMO usually speaking over music is sorta cheating, but it works in that track. Plus that funny small chord in the end! tbh I'm currently sorta obsessed with the FoO project, and I'm in the process of binge-watching the videos, haha

I don't really follow song generator that much, but I do like a good amount of the stuff they do. The last song they did is one of my fav things they've done ever. They took this weird idea and somehow made it weirded, but made it work. I've loved the FOO project since the start and it's always one of the highlights of the years when they post a new one. They did great this year, but I do feel like the sonic boom stuff in general has really given them a bit too much practice at making songs quickly. I like when they try an idea that they just don't have time to finish and have to make up for it somehow very quickly. That's why I still think the 1st album is the best. That being said, this year's album has some absolute bangers on it.

I have a lot of similar thoughts about this album (although I like Infinite Lives) but I think one of the big things is that I just have a gripe with the premade themes. There are two main issues I have with them. First, I feel like it really boxes them in. Having that theme out of the gate feels like it makes them gravitate more towards a certain style of music (and I don't love that style this year) and part of the fun of FOO to me is seeing two talented musicians cook something up from scratch. See what inspires them in a time crunch and see where they go when they can't find that inspiration. This leads into my second issue. The premade themes really don't feel FOO to me. The point of FOO is to go into the studio and have twelve hours to write an entire album from scratch. The premade themes don't feel like it's from scratch. They make this theme, prepare merch for it, and then they go in with ideas already flowing in order to match that theme. It just feels like it loses the beauty of spontaneity that FOO has where it's two friends that let their ideas flow freely, rather than being boxed in by this theme. You know what I mean?

Apparently cats used to piss monks off a lot by peeing in their manuscripts. The monks left notes in the marginalia indicating how they felt about that. I heard that there were some cats that wouldn’t stop meowing during prayer hours so they were taken to court. I’m not sure who represented them or won the case. They may have meowed in their defense and been executed. Those medieval murderous peeing kittens. I might be making part of this up.

The song generator series may be wearing them out on the whole quick songmaking concept, cuz this year really sounds the least inspired one to me. I'm scared it's starting to feel like a chore rather than a fun project to them. I love FOO nonetheless and this year brought some genuine gems, those songs you mentioned do rule indeed.
@idlehi25 күн бұрын
I wouldn't go as far as to call it a chore I still got the vibe that they enjoy it a lot from the video, but I do think the song generator takes something away from FOO

To be honest, I really like Rob and Andrew as musicians, content creators and people. But all the First Of October albums are mediocre and really corny. Also the first album was their best and every album they release is weaker than the previous one. Anyways i really like the series because they are fun to watch
@idlehi25 күн бұрын
Well it's no BCNR lol but some of the FOO albums are significantly above mediocrity in my eyes, though the more years go by the more I think the first album was indeed the best

1: Ten Hours is a weird and wonderful trip, I'm glad the first project was good enough to not just prompt them to keep going but also still stand on its own. 2: THANK YOU, Finally someone else says it. Do you want to is the only song worth listening to off the album. Ravioli feels like it was just trying so hard. 3: My favorite album here. GREG is just packed to the gills with weird and quirky songs with really only the apology melody being worth the skip. Miracle is outright the best song they've ever made, and I love bookmobile so much. 4: As a default metalhead, CHAOS was so much fun. They get this goofy energy going on, resulting in the Headless Horseman, and oh my god listening to Rob just hammering away on every metal guitar trick he knows is glorious. 5: Listening to Across the Road after watching robs video on the matter really does hit home that Rob doing everything he could, but they still hammer out some solid tunes! Abby Rowed and Usually were solid hits, and you can tell by this point they've really gotten used to the pattern. Seeing this video after they released Round Six, I'd say that Across the Road is about the standard they're looking for. I'd put them both on the same level. Definitely not a greg, but still got a couple fun jams in there, and having rob back in form is always nice.
