Getting it done before the age of 30 was important to me since the doctors kept saying I had strong bones. Figured it would help with recovery. I did move to Jersey City and walk about 7 miles a day. So however the doctor did my surgery didn't plan for me to be walking so much. I had to have corrective surgery on my left foot because the screw was scraping my bone. So now I have a plate which is still a bit swollen a year later and two more screws in my left foot.

thats not a boot, thats a surgical shoe and they are not 10 pounds, have the exact one, I was in a boot casr for 6 weeks after my bunion surgery than in the surgical shoe for 2 weeks after. You might have had minimally invasive surgery, but traditional bunion surgery is very painful.
@PieterJanssen-t9i
@PieterJanssen-t9i 9 ай бұрын
You are right, it makes a big difference which type of surgery and which method was used. I just had Arthrodesis surgery done (not minimally invasive, that is not covered by our health insurance) and it was hell for 2 days. The pain medication was not sufficient (diclofenac, naproxen + paracetamol). After 2 days it was bearable. Now after 10 weeks it feels very stiff and I can walk carefully but not longer than appox. 30min or the foot gets very sore and swollen the next day. Iĺl try the exercises that are still possible after arthrodesis and hope that will help. If I can walk again without any problems, it was still worth it. But for my other foot, I will demand much stronger pain medication! Good luck all!

I've got to have surgery soon and l will be on my own afterwards l have 2 cats also to look after so scared. I have no family and friends are too busy ! Any advice 😪
@WithLoveMM
@WithLoveMM Жыл бұрын
I don't have any cats but it should be a bit easier than having a dog because you probably have a litter box for them. If you're going in for one foot you can get one of those scooters where you walk on one leg. Also if your cats eat dry food you can get one of those feeds that dispenses the food on its own. I did one foot at a time so I was able to hop around and do things on my own when my husband was busy. The second surgery I had a wheelchair to do a bit more. It also depends on I you have pain. If anything you can hire someone from rover.com to come at least the first week to take care of your cats needs. Hope that helps.

I posted 2 months ago, right before I had surgery.... my surgery was successful, however.... my pain was terrible the first 3-4 days. about 12-14 hrs after I was home it started....I could feel every movement I made, my foot throbbed, the pressure was awful, weirdest thing was I changed from sweats into shorts and I think the cold air exposure to my nerve receptors was a shock because that was a big start to the pain. It sounds weird but it truly was awful.... I'm 40, been through quite a few painful things and it was definitely one of worst. If you are experiencing pain, use your pain meds, use ice pack, we had a big bandage style one that you could fill with crushed ice and tie around leg to hold it there. Stay off it if hurts. Those first 2 days were really bad but after that it eased itself. Also I recommend as soon as you are able to, start doing things....I went in kitchen, rested knee on a roll chair and did dishes or made coffee or dinner. Each day I added a little more time I was up. My bruising and swelling was pretty excessive first 4 weeks but then started reducing. I'm 8 weeks out and can pretty much do normal life. Toe is stiff but I stretch it and focus on really using it. Everyone experiences different things with this surgery. I'll add this: the Dr will do best to predict what you can expect but remember that can change. Once my Dr got into my foot the arthritis was way worse and required more digging and toe needed more adjusting then what he thought... I'm so glad I did it though 😌definitely worth it. Just listen to your body, don't overdo it and let others help you.

@LeoKat2013
@LeoKat2013 Жыл бұрын
@Ellie Stafford my pain was terrible the first week or so, way worse than I thought or Dr thought would be. But he said once he got into my toe during surgery, there was a lot more arthritis tissue that he had to dig through and had to change position of toe more than planned. The pain subsided day over day. It was mainly the swelling that kept bothering me. I had to keep my foot elevated a lot and took about 5-6 weeks for that to be tolerable. At 7 weeks no pain minimal swelling and i finally felt comfortable enough to get out of boot and wear shoes or bare feet, the issue then was lots of stiffness with toe, so I started doing physical therapy exercises to loosen joint which helps. My biggest piece of advice is trust your body, listen to your Dr but don't baby it, it will tell you if doing too much. (I pushed it more than should, maybe, but my Dr knew I would lol). By about 10 weeks i was pretty much back to pre surgery level, even better because I don't have the arthritis bunion pain like before and know it will take 6 months - year to have full recovery. I wear an ankle compression band that covers my foot and toes, which helps support my foot when going to be on it a lot or working out. Sorry for the long answer, but I thought it may help or give you some tips or insight. I don't regret the surgery at all!!!! My quality of life is already getting better, and I'm excited for things I will be able to do that I was scared to do before. I hope your recovery is smooth and you get relief from what many have no clue is terrible to live with :)

After two weeks I didn’t need my crutches. A the one month mark I was able walk around like normal but I still had swelling. So whatever chance I had I would just make sure to keep my foot elevated and iced once in a while. It takes about a year for the swelling to be completely gone. But at the one month mark there’s nothing you can do to your foot to hurt the bone. Everyone’s different. My doctor was surprised that I was healing so quickly and that I had no pain. He also refused to do both feet at the same time because you heal faster doing one foot at a time.

I surely don’t want my left foot to get to that point! He said after 6-8 wks I could do the other but I might wait till early April so I’m pretty healed by summer or else later in the fall.
