Thanks for the video. I used to do that same walk often. Lived in the house with the high brown wooden fence on the corner at 35:08 🙂 As a child I'd go straight down to the beach with the dog through the minigolf ... I amazed the fence is still up and standing. All the steel was sawn off during the war for the army ... Thats the reason for the wooden fenced in garden. The top window looking out to the street was a bathroom my dad put in to serve the bedrooms he made for us children in the attic. You can see it doesn't fit in with the rest of the house's roof. Beautiful sea views from all the upstairs window bays. We used to race out the back gate, round the pavement and back in the front gate on our bicycles - Seemed like a long way ! But I was 8 so ..... LOL. The cobbled front driveway and the garage were built by my dad and are still there. Cobbles were collected from the beach on our long walks with an old rusty barrow ! Used to walk past the station every day. Dad took the train; and we continued up to the primary school. Just for the sake of it; We used to get snow in North Berwick it was so cold in winter, EVEN with all that salty air !!! Always windy in NB.

I love how peaceful the walks are here. How when you move out of someone's way, they don't have an ego moment thinking you're scared of them (how it is in my city). And people show you the same courtesy. How every path leads to the same street, you get to decide the route. There's zero need for a car, in fact it can be more of a nuisance to have one here. So soothing, healing for the soul to hear those waves too.

Thank you for uploading this. I'll be in Edinburgh in a couple of weeks & plan to take a day trip to Stirling. I know this is a dumb question, seeing as how the castle is on top of a hill, but are there signs on the route to the castle?

I didn't pay much attention, but I think I saw some signs. Sure depends on your starting point.

Rose St may have loads of pubs but it is just a desolate back street. It is much better in the old town

Agree. That's why I filmed so often in the old town. Rose Street would have some potential to be much better than it is. But that's reality

If you check out old videos of Aberdeen City from the 1960's/70's/80's you will see how vibrant it was with throngs of citizens enjoying their home city. But now it's dead...literally dead in the water....SOULESS CITY !!
@jesusisking3974 Жыл бұрын
It seems 60% of the Aberdonian's has disappeared leaving a dismal few to walk the Streets. The vibrant energy has gone...Aberdeen is now Souless thanks to the Corrupt City Council who mismanaged the Oil Money. I should know...as this was my Home for over 50years and I witnessed it's demise so got out. There are more CCTV Surveillance cameras than people or shops. Sad but True.

Thanks for taking me on this walk. I can't wait to come see Edinburgh in person! How much of the town is uphill or hard walking? My 69 year old brother is coming with me and I want to be prepared. In your opinion, if we take it easy and stroll, would he be ok? Thanks for your help and for posting this walk.
@HeidiSK-Walks Жыл бұрын
Edinburgh is built on several hills, so every visitor should be aware of that. Also in the town centre there'svup and downs. I don't know your brother, but there are older people walking the streets. When I was sick and thus in very bad shape, I was taking it very slow... There's also plenty of cafes and stuff to take a break. When walking up Calton Hill, do not follow the signs directing to the stairs, but follow the street up the hill. Calton Hill would be a must in Edinburgh

Thanks for making this video. I'm planning to come to Edinburgh next year. Stirling castle is one of the places I want to visit. We are planning to take the train from Edinburgh to Stirling. Are taxis available at the train station to take us the rest of the way to the castle? Do you know if train tickets can be purchased that day or do they have to be purchased in advance?
@HeidiSK-Walks2 жыл бұрын
You can purchase train tickets via app, that is possible in advance or at short hand notice. If you prefer to buy them at Edinburgh Waverly station, make sure you're there when the travel centre opens in order to avoid long waiting times. Check the opening hours in advance, those of the same day ticket counters differ from advance ticket counters. This year has been very chaotic with strikes and delays, so I was glad about the app! In Stirling I've never paid attention to taxis. But the walking distance is not far between station and castle, I filmed it if you want to take a look kzbin.info/www/bejne/hp_Wd4psebibbrs
