We were really torn about that. The actor was fantastic, so we wanted to shoot with him. It's kind of interesting that the pilot that Rick Remender just shot used a caucasian actor for the role, so even the professionals have a hard time with that kind of thing.

The actor who Rick picked for the show is actually half mexican, he looks mostly white but he has latino blood in him. I'm Nicaraguan and i'm fine with that, tbh it doesn't bother me at all. But i gotta say that the actor of this fan film did such an awesome job!! congratulations! i loved him!

Really good point. A wider lens would definitely help here. Also Warp Stabilizer could clean this footage up in Premiere without much effort. I think I was just surprised that Sony's hot lens at the time (the full frame 55mm) paired so poorly with this camera. There is no stabilization in the 55mm, and the APSC sensor effectively zooms in, making the lens the equivalent of an 84mm lens. Of course a couple months after this video Sony released the 6500, with stabilization, and now no filmmaker in their right mind would go the 6300 route. So it may be time to take this video down, it's kind of old news.

so let me get this straight, you decide to shoot handheld then complain because the video is unusable when you're purposely using a light weight camera that's designed to be used with a gimbal or steadycam????
@GreenScreenCinema7 жыл бұрын
I don't think Sony is expecting consumers to pay less than $1000 for the 6300 body, and then run out and buy a SteadyCam rig. If you have the money for a SteadyCam rig then you probably also can afford a higher end model (like the 6500). Sony just mis-timed the market with this camera (and the 55mm lens). The previous lenses that Sony made at this price point also had SteadyShot. They decided to go with no SteadyShot on the 55mm, and then also skip stabilization inside the 6300. The two together are a poor combination. That's all I'm trying to show.

I did subsequently try this out on a PC and got a much better looking result. One thing I had to work around, however, was the WP audio component, which was not recognized by the PC (using WireCast). Here is the trick if you want WireCast to use this device for audio: while this unit is attached to your PC, attach another USB audio device (in my case a Sennheiser audio device) which will install a USB audio driver. The WP will then start to use the newly installed USB audio driver (somehow). When I contacted Black Magic support they had no idea why my PC didn't recognize the WP audio device, and why a different USB device's driver worked with it. They didn't even have a previous ticket with this problem. If you hit a problem with audio please let me know in the comments! Thanks!

I'm going to be testing this as well on my WP. However, I'm running my entire system through the ATEM TVS HD first. Any updates on your issue?
@GreenScreenCinema7 жыл бұрын
Hi Panda! I've used this successfully with a PC (the signal looks correct if you use a PC). But after spending a lot of time with Black Magic support this is no fix for the Mac issue. Most of the "supported" software does not work with Mac, and the one single Mac app I could get to work with the WP came out this dark. We are going to switch over to the Teradek Cube for remote broadcasts. We won't let anyone use this gear on one of our productions.

I did update to software version 1.1 the minute I opened this thing up. Years of using Black Magic gear has taught me to always see if there is a software upgrade. Still close to non-functional on the Mac platform.

IF you think this camera is too limited for filmmaking, then you dont really know anything about filmmaking. Learn to tell your story and/or entertain through moving images. Wor with limitations you may have with gear or locations, as there will always be limitations when filmmaking. The point is to make you film with the shots you can produce, not the with the shot that you cant produce.
@GreenScreenCinema7 жыл бұрын
I don't know why, but I like these kinds of comments. I'm glad that someone out feels confident about their filmmaking knowledge. I am continually learning and generally assume that I know nothing. So thanks for pointing out that I need to keep learning.
@seanmckee81068 жыл бұрын
The home video you shot hardly can be called filmmaking. You are shooting video. Not making a film. The a6300 as a filmaking tool is second to none for the price. But if you want shoot "video" with your bare hands, use your a7r2, for stable shots. But remember, you are shooting video, not making a film.Tripods, steadicams, gimbals should be used for any camera if you are talking about filmmaking, unless your doing the blaire witch.
@GreenScreenCinema7 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with you. A love my A7rii and have become very used to how easy it is to pick up shots with it. The a6300 is definitely not that camera.

six words for you sir - Tripod, Steadicam, & Shoulder rig, Wider lens. I've shot with a lot of camera's and they all have best practices, learn them then create magic, rinse & repeat. but from experience I know that any medium telephoto handheld is going to be shaky get a 20 2.8 or a 50mm OSS like I have.

@GreenScreenCinema7 жыл бұрын
This is what killed me about the 55mm, it was one of the few lenses in that range at the time, it had no stabilization, and then Sony makes this camera without stabilization as well. The two together were a disaster. But now if you put that thing on a A6500 you are all set. I just needed to wait 6 months for it all to come together

There is NO in-camera image stabilization in the a6300. If you want to hand-hold a camera and still have buttery smooth, stable images, buy a Sony Handycam with Balanced Optical Steady Shot (BOSS). BOSS will make it look like you're using a tripod or at least professional gear. This camera doesn't have BOSS. The lens you mounted does not have image stabilization either, so we're not sure why you would expect video that doesn't look hand-held. Nothing wrong with the camera.

try the Sony 50mm 1.8 oss ....much cheaper
@GreenScreenCinema8 жыл бұрын
+Sajid Assad Yes! I have been shooting with the 50mm for a week now. The shake is under control, but the a6300 cannot hold focus with that lens. In AF-C mode (continuous focus mode) the focus keeps hunting, even when the subject is completely still. I think for my next video I will document the focus hunting problem, it's ruined a lot of video this week. Thanks for your comment.
@StevenZephyc8 жыл бұрын
allow me to introduce sony 50mm f1.8: almost the same focal length, same aperature, and IS STABILIZED, also Cheaper Geez at focal length of 80mm even a cheap tripod is going to induce some slight shake, and you are claiming your hand is better than a tripod?
@StevenZephyc8 жыл бұрын
Comes to think about it, sony is the only company that produce Stabilized 50mm.
@StevenZephyc8 жыл бұрын
+Steven Zephycrs (Shichun) Come to think more about ,the whole argument is even less valid: If you are going to go "budget", you would Choose 50 f1.8 over Zeiss 55. The reason you need the Zeiss 55 is that you are going to use it on full frame e mount(yes last time I checked, both FS5 and FS7 uses Super 34). But if you do not experience any shake when shooting full frame, that means you either have a a7rII or a7sII, both are the most expensive mirrorless sony sells right now, so you aren't really "on budget".
@GreenScreenCinema8 жыл бұрын
+Steven Zephycrs (Shichun) you are right, the APS-C 50mm is stabilized and is cheap (compared to the Zeiss). But the problem is you can only use that on the a6300, you can't use that on any A7 series camera (and get use of the full frame). The crop mode of the A7rii is especially bad, so its a bad idea to use an APS-C lens on it. So in one sense the APS-C lens is cheap, but it only has that one use. If you want to upgrade to an A7 series camera someday, you will throw away that investment in the APS-C 50mm lens. Someday you will be stuck buying the unstabilized 55mm 1.8, which I did... Thanks for commenting, your point is dead on. Any chance you could turn your down vote into an upvote now that you know my reasoning? I value your vote!
@StevenZephyc8 жыл бұрын
GreenScreenCinema I'm going to say that stick with 50mm 1.8, until you got money to buy both a7s2/a7r2 and the zeiss 55mm, then sell the 50mm, it's a much smarter investment
@GreenScreenCinema8 жыл бұрын
Did you see that just today Sony announced a 50mm non-stabilized full frame lens, for only $250? It's such a deal, that is now THE lens to get! But you'll still have micro-shakes with 4K video (unless you are fully locked down). Why is Sony leaving stabilization off their full frame lenses? It makes no sense. It must be difficult to stabilize the bigger elements.
@ChrisProuse8 жыл бұрын
As a pro filmmaker who shoots regularly with a 5D3, this sorta goes without saying... I would never shoot handheld with a prime lens that's unstabilized... because as steady as my hands are, you're going to be able to detect something even as subtle as my heart beating through my hands, which shows up in the rolling shutter. You'd run into this issues on any DSLR / mirrorless camera that doesn't have in-body image stabilization when shooting with a prime handheld. For filming handheld, the lens I'm filming with will always have built-in image stabilization, and if I'm shooting with a prime lens, the camera's always on a tripod.
@GreenScreenCinema8 жыл бұрын
+Chris Prouse thanks for the tip! The 55mm f1.8 is the only "nifty fifty" prime that Sony makes for their full frame cameras, so if you are trying to put together an all Sony package you are stuck with that lens. The lack of stabilization on that lens is really noticeable with the a6300. I definitely see the micro-shakes from my heartbeat. Thanks again for the comment!
@GreenScreenCinema8 жыл бұрын
+GreenScreenCinema I stand corrected. Sony just announced today a 50mm full frame lens, filling that hole in their lens lineup. But, again, not stabilized! Why Sony?
@ChrisProuse8 жыл бұрын
+GreenScreenCinema The same goes for Canon - it's filmmaking 101. I'd never film handheld with a nifty fifty on a 5D3, or a 70D, or a T2i... because it would be a jittery mess on all three. However, if you were to put a stabilized 24-105mm L lens on the A6300 via a Metabones adapter, your experience would be completely different while filming handheld :)

Canon IS works on a SONY?

Try using a wider lens. When we shoot hand-held with an APS-C camera we always stick around 18mm.
@GreenScreenCinema8 жыл бұрын
+Fotodiox Inc I LOVE FOTODIOX GEAR! The studio portion of this video was shot with your FlapJack LED Edge Light. Everyone should have one of these lights. I love the soft, even light it produces, and I also love that it uses standard Sony batteries (so it fits in perfectly with my other lights, which use Sony batteries)... And I completely agree, a wide angle lens would have saved this shoot. I think the 4k essentially doubles the sensitivity of the sensor to movement, so the rough math is [Base Lens X APS-C factor (x1.5) X 4K factor (x2)], which means a 55mm lens acts more like (55 x 1.5 x 2) a 165mm lens on a full frame camera, which is what it felt like. It felt like I was trying to hand-stabilize a 165mm lens, which is nearly impossible without some help from the camera.
@GreenScreenCinema8 жыл бұрын
Hi KZbin viewers! I really want low budget filmmakers that are thinking of buying this camera to know about its limitations. I hope this video clearly shows that you cannot hand hold this camera when using it to shoot 4K, even when fully braced on a chair or a table. Now that you know that all your shots will be locked down, or you'll be strapped into a $1500 gimbal, you know everything I wanted to impart in this video! Thank you! And my grandmother hopes you like her tea set, which was featured in the video. : )
