Why would he be speaking in french? Tres Vite. That makes no sense. The ARP team does not speak french. They would understand "repeat... Faster"

I am afraid of being outside at night and seeing 3 lights in the distance thinking they are drones and suddenly they make this sound 0:54 and realizing they are not drones At that moment he would put on the face of Mr. Incredibly disturbed

If you stop at 1:32, the UFO in the middle shows a smile like that of the Chesire Cat.

I love how they were all applauding and very satisfied with their communication with the 3 smalls ships only to have the gigantic mothership mow up. 😂

I'd be remiss if I didn't acknowledge my uncertainty regarding the existence of intelligent life beyond our planet. It's a question that challenges our understanding of the universe and our place within it.

I must have watched it a dozen times (on bluray) but missed it the first time around in the cinema. Luckily, I caught a strictly limited screening for its anniversary yesterday... it brought (happy) tears to my eyes 🥲

One of the greatest scenes in movie history, is the abduction of Barry, in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. When a child opens the door, as the universe comes knocking, there are no words for the power of this scene.

Wholly agree. Watching it as a kid fostered more than a little tension.

Spielberg's attention to even the smallest details is pure genius. The following scene when the Mother ship comes forward and hovers in front of them and that one technician runs to the porta potty makes the point. lol
@annehaight996311 ай бұрын
And the meaning of it is enigmatic. Is the guy running to hide? Or does he need to poop really bad and is trying to do it fast so he doesn't miss anything??

It’s the VOWEL sounds everyone A E I O U they’re universal. Unique. Across the entire universe. It’s not La Laaa La La Laaaa It’s A E I O U!
@lenpup011 ай бұрын
I like this idea. I believe it is effectively the mathematical approximation of that. Different organisms have different bodies and may not produce the same SOUNDS but the mathematical representation of these common language elements in the form of the octaves used here totally does click as a 'vowel' type thing.

Mad respect for Phil Dodds, the synthesizer technician who came to install but got a role in the film!

I worked with Phil in the early 80s. He told me that the oil smoke they used on set destroyed their synthesizer, an Arp 2500 if I recall correctly.
