I've had this book since I was 10 years old. I am now 70. I've read the book 10-15 times. It has never lost its charm. My children have read and treasure the book as well. If you are fortunate enough to come across a copy, buy it, read it and treasure it!

An excellent review. Kudos. You should perhaps also look at the 2020 book "Diverging Approaches of Political Islamic Thought in Iran since the 1960s" by author Seyed Mohammad Lolaki.

Excellent. Please review "The File on H" by Kadare. Another massively under-rated gem. Plus "Enver Hoxha: The Iron Fist of Albania" by Blendi Fevziu.

I recommend a documentary called "Loose Change" which I believe nicely explains logic which that event caused alot of people to throw out the window and back Bush to go kill people that had nothing to do with it and stay there for over 20 years accomplishing nothing, zero. We killed Sadam Hussein for Christ sakes and after learned we were wrong. Same thing with the Vietnam war, it was started by a government concocted newspaper story that never happened, literally.

Her theory, vibe and comments like she would have said for me to sit down and shut up if I was going to try and save my life and everyone else on the plane by fucking up some hijackers, she's not going to be able to make me do anything other than what I'm doing. Also, in high stress situations that are beyond what most humans ever have to deal with, the person will take bits of information and make assumptions which possibly makes no sense. If they were planning to kill the passengers, leave them on the plane into the building. She's saying they decided to take a seemingly impossible plan and make it even harder by transferring the people to another plane and then gassed them which there is no logic in that.

Good exposition of a seminal book of the 1960s. Herlihy is a neglected writer, imo, with compassion for the misfits in American society. I would add that his work is the saddest I've ever read, not to be undertaken if you're feeling down. But for me he embodies the spirit of the 60s and 70s.

I read Roddy's book, and then this book that was started by Roddy, but after his untimely death, Roddy's daughter Ariel and her brother Colt finished this book as a tribute to their father and his fans. Though I was not a huge fan of wrestling in the 80's because like so many others, I was pretty busy myself working and raising kids. But you couldn't help but know most of the guys at WWF. They were on magazine covers at the grocery store check out stand, they were action figures at Toys R Us at Christmas time. And yes of course they were on TV Saturday morning as a cartoon, and then in the afternoon in wrestling matches. But where I truly came to appreciate Roddy, not as a wrestler, but as a husband and a father was this summer when I turned 60. There is a part of the book where Roddy talks about when you get to that age when you can no longer do what you've done your whole adult life to support your family. And when you go home, your job is done there too, because the children are grown and have moved away. And you look at yourself and think, who am I and how did I get here? And where do I go from here? Because folks, all the titles that you accumulated as a younger person and became your identity for so many years are no longer applicable to you. You are no longer that person that did that job. You are no longer mom or dad. You are, but you aren't. And now there's this identity crisis of, who am I and where do I fit into this world at this age. And that's where Roddy's story helped me to realize that this is the time of my life that I get to create a new identity for myself. And this time I get to be in this space because I want to be, not because I have to be because it pays well. I get to be grandma and I can just enjoy them because I can spoil them and then go home. I get to spend more time with friends and family. Or on hobbies or getting interested in a new hobby. And to take the time to enjoy every moment we have here cause it goes by so fast and no one is guaranteed a tomorrow. That's what I took away from this book. And I am so glad that Ariel and Colt finished it. It's not that I didn't know a lot of this stuff before I read the book. It was that I felt as if I wasn't the only one with these feelings of being lost. And how to get beyond it and continue onto what lies ahead. I want to thank Roderick George Toombs, RIP and the whole Toombs family for sharing this story and personal glimpses into their lives. Thank you
