why miles per hour and metres should it not be miles per hour and yards

Thanks for the question. We could have used yards but we used metres as this is the unit used in the highway code on stopping distances. Feet is also used in it as well but it makes it easier for viewers to have one unit system. It would have also meant showing two representations of thinking distance and stopping distance for each speed which would have been unnecessary. We're happy to bear the information in mind for the future though!

I'm so moved by this video which, for me, conveyed so much more than all the news footage ever could. The physical challenges of your deployment are astonishing enough, but the emotional demands of your work must surely carry a heavier weight, at the time and for so long afterwards. I can't find the words to thank all of you for your courage, professionalism and humanity. And I know I'll never, ever forget watching this.

Huge admiration for Dennis. Interviewed me as Chief when I transferred up from London. Asked me how I’d cope with any jokes etc about Cockneys as he’d had as a Midlander. Also remember him doing a BA course with us and wanting a photo afterwards of us sitting together, all tired looking, mirroring an old B/w photo. A true gentleman and , dare I say, a Fireman’s Fireman

Changed quite a bit since my first day of service 28/8/1970. I still think the steel alloy wheeled escape was a more stable ladder than the whippy 135 ladder. But those wheeled escapes must have cost a fortune hence they were replaced! I also vividly remember getting a bollocking by my Guv for crunching every gear change in the crash-gear-box on a shout but on the way back every change was as sweet as a nut! Those were the good old days!

I mean, if someone even accidentally touched some excrement, or mud or grease, they don't just wipe it with tissue paper, do they? They wash it with soap and water to make it really clean. Just thought I'd correct the obvious error.
