What collision?. All I see is a pilot boat coming alongside a ship in order to board the pilot. Nothing particularly unusual about that, surely.

this pilot boat captain, skipped a few pages in the book. he probably belive he could manage to do it all in one turn and totally forget that a large vessel will suck smaller vessel into it! what he should do was to come along side the ship a little a head, keeping a parabel distance of 15-30 meters, match the speed for so gradually lower it position to where the lader is and first then very slowly close in. thus minimize risk of mishap like this

The pilot hit the ship on purpose to correct its position. The steering lock on the ship was faulty. Good manoeuvre.

Pilot and deck hand starting to walk down port side (left), this is a perfect example why you should NEVER move on that side as the 2 vessels approach each other, or else you may become the bloody filling between ship/boat sandwich!

That was not a collision, it was a meetup. Pilot boats do that every day. Maybe without the bump.

The pilot boat has AIS navigation and knows exactly where the ship is. The destination is the ship. A pilot must get off the pilot boat and climb a ladder onto the ship. Perhaps you should learn about the role of pilots and the procedures before making comments.

Misjudged? It's not a fucking race, lol You don't misjudge things on the seas, and worse still you don't ram a container ship with the pilot boat and then brush it off as "meh who cares I misjudged I'm not the one to blame it's the AIS"

In such close quarters AIS is irrelevant. Please keep in mind that boats do not have brakes. Pilot boats are built strong because they are always ramming/bumping into ships.

Pilot boats are used for Cruise ships and large vessels for bringing them into and out of port. Google it.......

He was trying to come alongside not pass ahead, which he could have done as he had this vessel on his port side and was stand on.

The pilot boat must meet up with ships to transport a pilot to the ship. The pilot then climbs a ladder onto the ship, takes over navigational control and brings the ship into port. This happens every hour of every day all over the world.
