Thank you so, so much for sharing this footage!! 🫶 I was unable to find it anywhere for months, so I really do appreciate it.

@siriusylee We booked the Barr Brothers twice @ MeadowGrass. They are some of the most interesting musicians we hosted. Very talented and humble. Qualities hard to find with some groups.

@@Hodag71 That is true, I am quite fond of the band’s nature regarding quality; Very much talented, and humble, indeed. I thank you for the insight, as well!! I have been quite fixated on the band ever since I first became aware of them, so it is once more very appreciated’

What year did they sing and record this? The date above of 2022- I am assuming that is the date that you posted this on KZbin? Thanks again for letting me know about this😊
@Hodag7131 минут бұрын
@KaraLey98 the song is from a 2005 CD featuring women who play blues style guitar. The CD didn't give credit for the dates songs were recorded, but my best guess is that this song was recorded sometime back in the late1970s.

Thank you!! These two women are my favorite singers-very happy to hear them together!

I saw Commander Cody and the band live in 1973. It was in a small hall that sold beer and had a dance floor, and it turned into the most fun live music party I ever attended in my life. That was a fantastic band and I feel real lucky that I saw them at their peak.
@Hodag7118 күн бұрын
Never saw the band play live, but played the grooves off the records. My lucky connection was that I got drunk with The Commander once when he was still teaching art at UW-Oshkosh. I wanted to talk about music, and he wanted to talk about anything other than music. :)

I met and spent good times with Dick Schroeder in the late '70s, early '80s when I was living with his sister-in-law. Visited them, Dick and Lynn, many times during the Taos Mt. Outfitters days. I'm living in Boulder Jct, WI now and frequent Rhinelander couple times a week so am quite familiar with the Hodag legend.

Drove up to Eagle River once to see Monroe Doctrine open for Vasser Clements. (Circa 1980) I've been in Colorado ever since, but make to back to Hodagland to visit relatives every now and then.

Thanks for noticing the sound. Mighty Fine Productions chief engineer Colin Bricker & his staff are the best. Colin has scores of credits under his belt including a Grammy Nomination last year for his studio work with The Infamous Stringdusters.

@Hodag712 ай бұрын
He's a regular fixture at University Shopping Center concerts. He does the same dance moves, no matter what kind of band is playing. I don't think he needs to smoke anything to get that vide. He's just doing his thing!

I make my livin' playin' fiddle I play it every night To tell the truth I'd fiddle, if I didn't make a dime And I sure like good liquor It makes me want to play Funny thing about the fiddle is It makes you wanna drink For a shot of homemade whiskey And a hundred dollar bill I'd burn the hair right off this bow And play the temperance reel I'll play one for the ladies So sweet they swoon and sway I'll play one for those I've loved And the one that got away I play it in the mountains And out on the western plains I’ll play it for my brother Who I'll never see again Play it high play it lonesome Like a mountain whippoorwill Let’s burn the rosin off of this bow And play the temperance reel If drinkin' and dancin' Is an awful dreadful sin, Then I know where I'm goin' Sure as I know where I've been This old fiddle bit me on the leg When I was 6 years old I guess I’m gonna play it 'Till the devil gets my soul I could play it all night long And never get my fill Let's lay that rhythm down boys And play the temperance reel

Lyrics Remember when our songs were just like prayers? Like gospel hymns that you called in the air Come down, come down, sweet reverence Unto my simple house and ring And ring Ring like silver, ring like gold Ring out those ghosts on the Ohio Ring like clear day wedding bells Were we the belly of the beast or the sword that fell? We'll never tell Come to me clear and cold on some sea Watch the world spinning waves, like some machine Now I've been crazy, couldn't you tell? I threw stones at the stars, but the whole sky fell Now I'm covered up in straw, belly up on the table Well, I drank and sang, and passed in the stable Mhm, mhm And that tall grass grows high and brown Well, I dragged you straight in the muddy ground And you sent me back to where I roam Well I cursed and I cried, but now I know Oh, now I know And I ran back to that hollow again The moon was just a sliver back then And I ached for my heart like some tin man When it came, oh, it beat, and it boiled and it rang Oh, it's ringin' Ring like crazy, ring like hell Turn me back into that wild haired gale Ring like silver, ring like gold Turn these diamonds straight back into coal Turn these diamonds straight back into coal Turn these diamonds straight back Mhm, mhm, mhm

Later on When they've all gone I'll save a seat next to me for the long ride home And late at night When the world is quiet At least you'll know in the afterglow you're not alone Isn't it just madness the life we made? Chaos every second now and big mistakes I don't wanna be who they want me to be And nobody sees me the way that I see me like you see me Later on When they've all gone I'll save a seat next to me for the long ride home And late at night When the world is quiet At least you'll know in the afterglow you're not alone Lately I've been thinking that maybe I shouldn't think It's caused me nothing but trouble now among other things And maybe I've been standing a bit too long in the crowd Wondering if I seem like I made good on my dreams or just flamed out Later on When they've all gone I'll save a seat next to me for the long ride home And late at night When the world is quiet At least you'll know in the afterglow you're not alone Later on When they've all gone It's hard to believe how hard it can be to find some relief And late at night When they kill the lights Nobody sees me the way that I see me like you see me Later on When they've all gone I'll save a seat next to me for the long ride home

Not sure when you saw them, but The Levellers played an encore there when supporting New Model Army on the Impurity tour, in the early 90s.

I saw them at a very small venue years back. David's guitar solos are mesmerizing. He makes you feel that you are being lifted out of your seat, floating and then he sits you back down gently. And I was not on drugs. I promise.
