The price is very reasonable, as the size. It is a great daypack, put a E & E pouch on it and you are ready to go. Its a great investment, I love it. Nice 😊

G,Day Mate , my Helikon Tex Haversack cost me $75 ( Australian ) which I was happy to pay , considering what it cost to purchase similar quality items for twice the price so what you get is quite good for the price you pay and even though it is a tight fit , a nalgene bottle does fit in the internal water bottle sleeve , you just have to twist it like a screw when you are taking it in and out of the pack , nothing really hard about it . Cheers Mate , 👍🙂🇦🇺 .

Just gave you a sub. What rope and length painters do you use?
@thewoodsmanthedog98363 жыл бұрын
Hi TOOZE CRUISE, I’ve just used a floating rope bought from my local canoe shop 10mm I think, the length is 1 1/2 times the length of the boat so in this case I’ve used around 20ft

Joseph Beaudoin glad to be of some help. Another good resource is Ray Goodwin’s book. Have a look he’ll go through all the strokes and some more of the outfitting.

I got a prospector 17 sp3 and want to do the same. Can I damage the boat in any way? What is the risk 😄 Sorry I’m new to canoe.

Simon P. Hello, the SP3 is a pretty indestructible boat just be sure to measure accurately before any drilling.

Nice set of videos and nice paddle to end it. Good job. I use an otter tail as well when the water is deep enough to allow it.

Nice save, brother! I’ll have to find the episode where you try her out. The suspense..... I’ve just purchased my first used canoe. A junker but she’s all mine. She came with 3 wooden abused paddles that need salvaging. Wish me luck. I enjoy your videos and recently subscribed. Cheers! MG

Thanks, I have yet to use the repaired paddle but I did have it as a back up on my last video. Canoes are a wonderful way to travel and if you get to make it your own, well all the better for it I say. Good luck restoring your paddles and thanks for being a subscriber.

An enjoyable journey.I was watching your j-stroke there,picking up some tips! Just got myself an open canoe after many years of being a kayaker,it's a whole new learning curve paddling a canoe.Atb,Andy.

Rameman thanks, I’ve spent most of my time in a kayak over the last few years but it’s always nice to get out in the big boat every so often. If you get a chance to pick up a beaver tail paddle I highly recommend it.
@Rameman336 жыл бұрын
Why a beaver tail in particular mate,i'd like to know as i'm going to K&P's at the weekend to get a paddle for the canoe.
@thewoodsmanthedog98366 жыл бұрын
Sorry I meant a Ottertail (the one in the video) the beavertail was designed for whitewater but can be used on the flat as well.I haven't used one yet but fingers crossed. I had been using a Grey Owl voyageur made from laminated lime, ash, cherry and walnut for a couple of years and this is a very nice paddle don't get me wrong but once i'd used the Grey Owl cherry chieftain for this trip I was sold. The voyageur is quite a stiff paddle because it is laminated but is cheaper and can withstand more knocks because of it. Where as the chieftain is carved out of one solid piece of cherry so it is very soft, you get a much better feel for each paddle stroke but won't hold up to heavy power strokes or pry's (Its also expensive). I personally felt I had more control and could move faster through the water with the ottertail. Plus I loved the feel of the chieftain, there isn't a varnish on the paddle so its very tactile. if your buying a paddle don't forget to get a spare, doesn't need to be anything special but you will need it, you can pick up polyurethane paddle for under £20 that will do the job.

What length cord did you use for each side?
@thewoodsmanthedog98366 жыл бұрын
Dee Tee it obviously depends on the length of boat, but the rule of thumb is one and a half lengths of the boat for lacing each side. This will leave some left over for handy tie downs.

Christopher Richardson, it hasn't been filmed yet, a busy work/home life and whiplash on a grade 4 in my playboat have hampered me over the last few months and not much as been uploaded but full health and spare time will soon allow me to continue and finish this playlist.

I want to do exactly what you've demonstrated there on me new Hou 13ft. Top marks for technique and method etc. Only gripe is that I lost you on the sound a bit, you're quite muffled so I had to crank the sound right up. A little lav mic would do it.
@thewoodsmanthedog98366 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andy, yes since I shot this I've purchased a mic and when the new videos go up hopefully their will be an improvement with the quality. But I couldn't wait to work on the canoe and we work with what we've got (GoPro). I hope its helped with your own project.
