First time coming across this video and I am so impressed with the 54 year old woman med student. I've learned that age is just a number especially if you have all of your wits . I sat through the whole pod cast interview and was blown completely away during the whole interview. She is such an inspiration to me in so many ways. The fact that she have so many years of experience in nursing and is a PhD major, accepted into med school is a beautiful thing. She never gave up and the fact that her son challenged her, stepped her into a higher level of education speak volumes of her son. This woman is an exception in everything. Family, friends, education, her responsibilities and most of all, she defined herself as a woman and her family because she put them first. She speaks with clarity and poise, she is amazing and have a story to tell and share, for sure. I am a 53 year old woman going thru the process of enrolling in a pre-med flex program and just like her, aspired to become a doctor. I've always wanted to become a doctor but children and life just put that thinking process on hold. Now that my kids are grown and I am in a better space, I can pursue my dreams of becoming a doctor, if not, I will regret it leaving a void. Although, I've been accepted in the PA pre-studies program, it's not what I want and decided to go all the way to enrolling in med school. The MCAT, I know will be a challenge but I will be ready when the time come. She is such a motivation and listening to her only confirms my happiness and to never give up. Good interview, keep up the interviews because this helps people like myself.

I started Med school at the age of 20 and became a full fledged licensed MD at 25. It sounds pretty cool but thinking in retrospect, I feel I lacked life experiences to deal with what would come after. So I think starting medical school at a later age doesn’t seem to be a bad idea.

If affirmative action affected whites in the same way that it affects Asians, the policy would cease to exist. Just another example of systemic racist policies enacted by left leaning academia.

Specialty Stories is by far one of my favorite podcasts! I like that you interview physicians from a variety of specialties and subspecialties. I've learned about subspecialties that I didn't know existed. There is one I have heard about, neuro-behavioral neurology subspecialty but have had no luck finding much information on. Maybe you could add that to your list :)

This was a great episode, but I think you should change the title and description as it's misleading. According to her linkedin she didn't do a dermatology residency, but she did a dermatopathology fellowship through pathology. This makes a lot more sense as pathology is much more attainable for an IMG. But it also seems she 'practises' clinical dermatology without having done a residency in dermatology, and that's a bit...questionable.

I have been telling the world for 50 years that medical care is a necessity, unlike the arts/humanities/entertainment, and that we can therefore never have enough doctors & nurses and therefore nursing and medical schools should allow everyone in who wants in. And governments should pay the schools and the students to teach & to learn all this knowledge. Not my fault things are not this way. I have no control over that.

have any of you had difficulties (metal and physically) to anatomy classes and then how did you get used to dealing with open wounds, blood and surgeries? is it something you were prepared for before medical school or you grew accustomed and were able to be alert at task without the shock? Thanks for your work, it was very pleasant hearing from your wife, she is very calm and delivered so many important points.

Thus, I can't access your study schedule. I could really use the guidance with using your study schedule while reviewing your videos. It would help give me an idea of where to start, since there is so much to cover. Can you please let me know how I can access your study schedules?
