@@PhobicsGarage I'm working with 2 4780-2 carbs. They only have idle screws in the primary metering blocks. The rear metering blocks have removable jets, holes in the side of the blocks but not drilled through or threaded for screws The throttle body shafts are not loose. Both throttle bodies work on the good carb. The primary butterfly is not drilled with a small hole on either. The power valve circuit is plugged. One carb is perfect. My test bed engine is a 70 boss 302 engine. I've done, rebuilt more than 100 carbs of different sizes and tested them on this engine. The carbs had been sitting on a 1964 Ford 427 for I don't know how many years. I bought the car and engine from a lawyer in San Diego and he didn't know how long it had been sitting either. No rust damage, but you can tell it had been in dry storage along time. Carbs are not dirty. I've cleaned them out and the like. He buys sells get deals on cars, at the right place kind of thing, has many connections, that sort of thing. Does it as a hobby. Nice guy. But he doesn't know that much about cars. The only thing I can do maybe at this point is change the main body. But haven't found one yet.

@@PhobicsGarage slight shakey idle and a stumble when giving it some gas. All holes are blown out with carb cleaner and compressed air. Spraying that WD 40 on the outside doesn't effect idle or throttle. I assemble all my carbs with chapstick. So that I can take them apart with out gasket damage. Nothing leaks or drips while idle, I've stared down the carb. Has to be something in the main body, because all the other parts work the same.. I've mixed matched them every which way. Does your wire speed go by increments of 4-6 while trying to adjust it? Primeweld says it’s normal but I haven’t been able to find anybody who has one that goes in increments of 4 pretty weird of all the welders I’ve used in the past 15 years plus the 7 MiGs I own(I have a welder problem🤣)I’ve never seen one do it besides when the board was going bad on a miller and it had to get warrantied.

Removing the choke horn section of the carb is done for different reasons, one is allowing clearance for low profile air cleaners in tight under hood situations, the other main one is better flow to the venturies but if done wrong it can mess with the booster signals (look at many of the aftermarket carb bodies and race carbs) If you are not a long time carb tuner its usually better to just buy an aftermarket body with it already removed and smoothed out. If curiosity really gets you David Vizard's How to Super Tune and Modify Holley Carburetors covers a bunch of info on the topic.
