I was assigned to TUSLOG Detachment 4, Sinop Turkey after 16 weeks of Basic and Advanced training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO in the summer of 1962. After two weeks of leave at home I along with 3 other guys from my training company at Leonard Wood meet up at Fort Dix, NJ for overseas shipment. We arrived in Turkey in November 1962. We were sent from Ankara to Sinop on an Army Convoy that took about 13 hours. Upon arriving in Sinop, and processing in, I was ordered to return to Ankara for duty assignment at TUSLOG Det 4-1 the Aviation and Liaison Section for Det 4. Det 4-1 supported Det 4 at Sinop. I was told I would be on an 18 month assignment, the other three guys stayed at Sinop and were on a 12 months assignment. I saw these guys later when they shipped out in Early December 1963. I returned to Sinop in early May 1964 for about a week to process out and left Turkey in Mid May 1964 for reassignment to Ft Campbell, KY where I finished my three year enlistment and was separated from the Army at the end of May 1965. PS: The two times I stayed in Sinop I was billeted in the Quansah Huts.

Wow, an old (1920’s?) record asking the question, “Wasn’t Little Red Riding Hood a prostitute?” Or at least a call girl, or an escort, or a rich man’s mistress, or something - where does her money come from, she goes out alone wearing red, and she comes upon- a wolf! 😂 What a great song!❤

I just wish that music fans would appreciate the great music that George Harrison put out during his solo career & stop comparing it to what he did in the Beatles. It’s just really pathetic that it took John Lennon dying tragically for George to finally get the recognition & adulation that his solo career deserved

So cool, brings back so many memories. As I recall, Kiddie Land was on Spruce Street… when I was a kid, from about 1969-1972 we lived at 100 4th Ave and our house was at the intersection with Spruce, so KL was just down the street. I used to love the boat ride, which was just a few boats on spokes attached in a wheel set in a little pool. The dinosaur was fun to see. I heard it was bought and it’s on display somewhere.

I was there probably at time of this vid. Like @Richards2072 I didn't think the barracks were this far along, however, we moved into the new barracks about a week before I left, around October 1961. The main gate incident was 17 May 1961. That was an interesting time. I can tell you that Buddy Fortner (Provost Sargent) and Rich Sherrington (Turk interpreter) are still alive and well. Lucky to be alive because they were there at the main gate during incident.

Having listened to his interview on CSPAN, I have to say that I disagree with many of Mr. Woods' proposals. Still, I'm absolutely sure that he wasn't given a fair shake by the people of Alabama, Nevada, and America because of his injuries, and I wish that he had lived in a time and culture where people would have regarded him for his ideas, NOT because of his appearance. RIP Charles Woods

In my opinion, The Zoo started it's downhill slide from the second song John LaBella played on his first morning broadcast. I set my alarm for 6:00AM (IIRC) on the day of his first broadcast and he opened with "Dirty Water" by The Standells. Great song and he was from Boston. That's cool. I don't remember what he played next. It didn't matter, The Zoo had already started it's downhill slide to commrcialism. I tried to hang on for a year or two until I couldn't take it anymore, then I went over to Q102 to Bo & Jim and never looked back. I was a big Zoo fan, still have an elephant decal around somewhere, but, IMHO, the real Zoo died the day LaBella started.

That rundown white house on San Jacinto! Always felt like the second floor would fall in at any second. I met Liza when she came in to use the studio while JMac was doing his Monday night show. And from that, I learned about the New Bo's.

I flew into Sinop on a L20 mail plane in the spring of 61 and believe the pilot was "Mr. K". Luckily, I flew out again during the spring of 62 and didn't have to endure the long ride in the back of a deuce and a half truck like most of my buddies did. I don't recall any twin engine aircraft landing there but I wouldn't necessarily know as I was an 058.

I would have been there when this video was made--we were the first to occupy the new barracks about halfway through our tour. Roomie with Jim Hyde and Bobby Reid. Yeni guards just when the incident at the front gate took place and we almost evacuated the base.

Charles Woods… read ‘The Man Who Lost His Face’ in Newsweek, Dec 11, 2005. He survived his B-24 crash in India in 1945 with 70% burns and underwent years of operations from which new surgical techniques were learned.

I never listened to rock radio to be "entertained" by jocks. I expected their music choices (when the Corporate Conglomerate Radio Chains still let a human choose) to be fulfilling. 24/7. That's what I remember from KLBJ-FM in Austin in the 70's, when I went to college there from1973-1977. NO Drive Time to get the masses to and from "work." Yakkety DJs were abound on many other stations, for those souls that needed whack, and blue humor to start their day...
