This was a profound podcast. I only listened bc it didn't start with "From the atchives comes this..." and then realized even that choice by me is reflective of the crisis we face as we isolate ourselves and don't listen to anything we don't choose. I hope you do more of these, especially as AI expands into everything we consume.

So I uhh- I took this tetra-chromatic test online and I’m pretty sure I passed… basically most people should see around 20-32, but I was able to pick out around 40. Now- I’m gonna be doing more testing that doesn’t involve a phone, and to see the green and yellow areas took the most strain to make out but I can baaaarely tell they’re different. I also thought “wait- is this why I was always confused by why everyone kept saying ‘the dress is white and gold’??” Because I’ve always seen it as blue and black- HOWEVER I distinctly remember one morning waking up, having not seen that since I was a little kid, looking at it again and registering it as white and gold. It was the only time I could do so and I haven’t been able to ever since. Either way- take this with a grain of salt but if I am a tetrachromat, I’m gonna be so ABSOLUTELY PSYCHED!!! I’ll be trying to also do more tests to see if I can actually TRAIN it- if that’s even possible!

The only other time I cried like that was when my mom and grandmother died on the same day. This story is proof that we people need to be more of stewards of nature.
@redi651811 күн бұрын
I cried also. Ive always been especially sensitive to the demise of innocent animals. Specifically when caused by people's either selfishness or ignorance or both. We humans are disgustingly oblivious to our own blind ignorance. Unearned arrogance and false sense of superiority and entitlement. We hold a belief that we possess a higher intelligence. When in reality we destroy everything we touch. Leaving a path of chaos and irreversible destruction everywhere we go. We just make messes out of what was harmonious perfection before we touched it.

In my opinion Wlilliam Hung has built up his outer shell to not be bothered by people laughing at him since the great audience his peers have been doing for the years since he was in grade school.
@tracys2cents14 күн бұрын
What a terrible interview with Mr. William Hung. This reminds me of the child-molestation trials where young children were repeatedly goaded until they gave the answers that the interviewer was hoping for. This interviewer was practically insisting that William Hung admit to being traumatized. Excellent job sticking to who you are and what you are, Mr. Hung. You did not let this woman's leading questions cause you to play her game. SHE should be more embarrassed about this interview than you ever were about your stint in front of the nation on American Idol.

This was a tragic and heartbreaking story. It's such a shame that Lucy's life ended in the way in which it did, b/c it never needed to happen. It's a clear indication that we should not be interaction, much less raising, animals like Lucy, b/c if they ever do need to be returned to the wild, they're incapable of fending for themselves. It's the same w/ tourists who feed wild animals. They become dependent upon it, don't know how to forage or hunt for food themselves, and they often end up hurting human beings, which requires them to be put down. It's all senseless. Ms. Carter, however, is a tremendous example of humanity. She spent years of her life in service to Lucy, and while the story didn't turn out the way anyone wanted it to, it takes nothing away from Ms. Carter's efforts.

On their last show, the cast of RADIOLAB wore SHORTS in their episode SELECTED SHORTS. What if this episode was on television and what would the cast look like. The woman who works on the show would have looked sexy in shorts. Icedown.

I wonder why the experiments are tone and electric shock. I mean, why they choose electric shock over automated treat dispenser. Makes you think of the human psyche. "And then I trained the rat to be afraid of two tones", YAY, achievement unlocked. Same thing with implanting fake memories: why does it have to be traumatic events like being lost in the mall or attacked by a vicious dog? why not riding an adorable white donkey on a Greek beach, or randomly meeting your favourite pop star, or swimming with dolphins? Kinds of strengthened my conviction that humanity sucks.

I wonder how many sheep ran out and embraced potatoes? And trampled right over the neglected person place or thing that was supposed to be symbolized by the potato. Its sweet that she received so many potatoes, but on some level the eye roll had to be palpable as the mindless glitteratti overlooked what the symbolic meaning was behind the potato. Challenge the status quo , look at the world without ego gain confidence by knowing theres something youre missing quit acting like sheep.

I'm pretty sure no one is going to see this, but it kinda gave me goose bumps... The part where they are talking about babies thinking logarithmicaly (sorry, i can't spell [yes, it would take less time to look up the spelling than to type all this {because I'm stubborn, i guess}]), it reminded me of this episode of "hidden brain" I'm pretty sure called "Follow the Anomalies"... There was this part where this fellow was talking about a particular... i think it was an experiment... basically, you go to get a clock/radio, and the person at the store says that the price is $25 here, but at their other store a few miles away, it's $20... Then asks, basically, what would you do? Now go to the same store on a different day for a $250 tv... the person says that the same tv is at their other store a few miles away for $245... again, what do you do...? Now, i live in a city where i could knit pick this and say i wouldn't travel for either because traffic sucks... but I'd obviously be missing the point... if I'm being honest with myself, I'm way more likely to travel for the clock/radio than for the tv... For the life of me, right now, i don't think the reason for this was discussed on hidden brain... i think it was more of the guest that day explaining that we do shit that isn't always necessarily logical and that (while it is indeed changing) economic theories were built on the principle of a logical human mind... i suppose... I'm having another thought from some other video on veritasium, but before i go there... what if this illogical behavior isn't, well... i want to say, what if it isn't "illogical" or "wrong", but... i mean... eh... now I'm thinking about evolution... doesn't matter... whatever... maybe i just get those bumps too easily...

This is a misunderstanding of genes. The "environment" includes hormones in the womb. There has been plenty of research trying to pin down social explanations and they've not been successful, at least in males. Evolution would quickly select against a social cause too.
