Hi Bonnie and Kim, I have some oro verde landscape rocks (7"x 5"x 3") that I'd like to cut down into smaller mosaic pieces. Will I be able to use the hammer and hardie? I really don't want to use a diamond blade on my circular saw to cut them down, but I might have to?
@MakeitMosaics29 күн бұрын
You won’t know unless you try! I don’t know that material. Some materials are very cooperative others…. well we just have to be the master of our universe! Good luck.

Hi! Can thin-set be used for the grout as well or strictly for the adhesive? And if not, is there a certain type of grout I should be buying?
@MakeitMosaicsАй бұрын
You can absolutely use thinset as grout so long as you are happy with the color , but beware thinset will be harder to clean off and you may get a haze- which can usually be removed with vinegar/water mix.

@@MakeitMosaics Thank you!! I actually have another question. I was thinking of using glass pieces for my mosaic- does the COE of the glass make any difference for these outdoor mosaics?? I keep seeing "90 or 96 coe" and I can't find any information online
@MakeitMosaicsАй бұрын
@@emilybrock-p8h What a great question; NO ONE has ever asked. No impact whatsoever. The coe is for compatibility when glass fusing, it is not applicable to what you are doing. Just remember, glass has a high slip factor; when I use glass, I call them "garden pavers" vs. "stepping stones." Thanks for being a fan!

I watched both videos on the Seabell Max Pro Compound Nippers and SeaBell Glass Wheeled Nippers , so to my understanding, are the compound nippers better for shaping? I heard you say you get less splintering just want to know why I should have both of these tools? (I am obviously a beginner). Thank you!
@kimwozniak5663Ай бұрын
The Wheeled nippers are for glass only. The Compound Nippers come with two sets of blades. One is straight and designed for ceramics. The straight blades can be used for both cutting and shaping ceramic material. If used on glass, it will create splinters. The second set of blades is curved and works well when cutting ceramics (not so much shaping). It can also be used to cut glass, but I reserve the use of it for thicker glass material such as B-Cut smalti. I hope this helps.

Thanks Bonny, I’m just starting mosaics, I have an old singer sewing machine and I want to make a mosaic table top for this sewing machine base. I thought I’d try a pot first the, if successful I’ll move onto my bigger project. I love your pots, they look amazing.

Thank you so much it was satisfying ✨️ I want to ask you is it possible to dye white smalti glass? Because i cannot provide all shades of colors in my country🥲 and what type of dye should i use? Thank you so much Have a blessed day 🤍
@MakeitMosaics2 ай бұрын
All glass, including smalti, does not accept paint well. Glass is vitrified and non porous. It will not absorb paint or dye. 😢

I'm just getting started on my mosaic journey, and this is a great technique for me because it reduces the number of times I can screw something up. Out of curiousity, what's your opinion on grouting the glass from the back, when the face tape is on, and then setting it onto thinset?
@MakeitMosaics2 ай бұрын
I rarely back grout, especially if my adhesive is Weldbond. When would I think about back grouting? Maybe if using ceramic that is thicker, but for stained glass and glass tiles I don't see it as an enhancement unless.....if my adhesive is white thin-set and I plan to grout dark. Thinset sometimes leaches into the grout if thin-set has not had a "full cure" (several days - 28 days per manufacturer). Then again, I would probably tint my thin-set darker to avoid the thinset leaching....unless my glass is translucent. Oh, so many variables and so many ways to skin a Cat! Hope this helps a bit. Bonnie

nice project, thank you ladies! Can you add links for the T-nuts?
@MakeitMosaics3 ай бұрын
The size of the T-nut will depend on your substrate and what you are attaching to. I get from Ace Hardware, Menards type hardware store - and I take a sample substrate with me. Scroll down this page on the Witshend webiste, they carry 1/4" and 1/2" hanging T-nut kits, but that does not factor in what you are screwing into. Hope that helps! witsendmosaic.com/mosaic-tools-supplies/mosaic-picks-tweezers.html
@kendraowen80673 ай бұрын
Any chance that you'd consider making a larger kit - like 8" x 20"?
@MakeitMosaics3 ай бұрын
The house number is not a kit, you can scale to any size and there are other substrate options.

if you do not build an interior channnel for the pole to be stopped, over time the pole will work its way out the top of the decorative element. The weight of the artwork eventually wins.
