@@happydrawingwithfrankrodgersI was also wondering what that fold in the paper that you had your hand on, were you using that as kind of a vertical guideline to her face? Your hand couldn't have gotten dirty, so I wondered why it was there. 😊

@@cathystaub4645 Thanks for your question. I used that piece of paper to prevent my hand from smudging my pencil lines as I moved up the paper. When you're using a soft pencil like I was (a 5B) it's advisable to do that in order to keep your drawing clean.

The way I draw my ships is that I draw the starboard side, and only the starboard side. I usually start with the stem of the bow and work my way to the stern, the ship looks really good in the end because of the way I make details. I might do a tutorial soon on how to do this.

The distance between the eyes is usually the width of an eye. Draw lightly first of all until you are sure of your line... also rest the heel of your drawing hand on a piece of clean paper to prevent pencil smudging. I'm very pleased to hear it. It's a good idea to draw with a soft pencil ( either a 3B or 4B) and to practice using different pressures on your paper from light to heavy. The best eraser to use is a putty rubber. Good luck and Happy Drawing!
