He's absolutely right. Sometimes things don't get out there right away. Like the fact you learned from Kool DJ Dee and Mario The Black Spades. The real forefathers of Hiphop so go ahead, live your notoriety down, keep riding that lie Train. You ain't invent nothing.

@@gordonmckenzie2920 Nope. The culture was already around when he was a kid and got to America. He contributed to the culture, not founded nor one of the founders. That title would go to people like DJ Hollywood, Coke LA Roc, Disco King Mario, and even James Brown or Pigmeat Markham. Those are the people who he listened to to, studied and emulated. You can't be a founder of a culture when you were a kid introduced to a culture of people that taught you, which is what Cool Herc went through.

Hart-Celler Act ('65) lets in the diaspora. Herc studies us, copies us and improves on a DJing technique that we were already doing. Herc gets credited with starting a culture that was already here. All other facets of hip-hop culture are ignored, most importantly, the people. Once again, Black descendants of American enslavement are wiped out of history.

Boban Milisavljevic Black Americans were makin Rap songs before Kool Herc was born www.dailymotion.com/video/x2uwn2e_louis-jordan-you-gotta-have-a-beat_music . You can't "originate" somethin that already existed. The term "hip-hop" is nothin more than a name for Rap after it became an industry. The Rap/Hip-hop genre is an African-American cultural creation...it has nothin to do with Jamaicans.
@LurnWell
@LurnWell 8 жыл бұрын
I must clarify one thing. Rap is not an African-American culture, it's an Ancient African cultural creation, in originality. Saying words over a beat is one of the oldest forms of expression. Jamaican toasting (freestyle rapping and rhyming with a DJ) existed in the 60's as well. The term "Hip Hop" is definitely African American in origin. Cowboy originated it in 1978. People aren't just referring to rap, when the term Hip Hop is used. Especially, when the term Hip Hop culture is being used.

Kool Herc didn't create Hip Hop. Hip Hop has several elements that Herc didn't create. Herc is more responsible for laying the foundations of Hip Hop music or rap. The other elements of graffiti,breaking and popping have their own origins/creators. Graffiti was started in Philadelphia by a guy named Cornbread. Breaking did start in the Bronx but not sure by who. Locking and Popping were started in California by Don Campbell(Locking) and Boogaloo Sam is credited with creating popping. Then you have the Strutting styles of the Bay Area in California. Anyway all of these elements eventually were brought together in the Bronx leading to the creation of Hip Hop culture.
