I thought the Legacy model was designed in 92, after Leo‘s passing in 91..

I prefer the bigger neck and flatter fingerboard radius of my legacy which is from the very early 2000s, i know the latest models are more to fender specs.

The demo doesn't specify what pickups each guitar is using, so I have to assume the G&L Legacy is using CLF-100's and the Strat is using Fender V-Mod II Single-coil pickups. I prefer the G&L neck tone and the Fender bridge tone.

Charles gave me guitar lessons back in the early 80's in Dunwoody. Back then, he had crazy hair, loved Steve Morse and didn't mind teaching me songs my parents wouldn't even let me listen to. So glad to see this man still playing music. He was phenomenal then and still is

Reading these comments, Strat got it, or the G@L all the way, I'm reminded of the beauty of music. Like a prestigious piece of art or a child's coloring book, someone out there will think it's the greatest.

definitely liked the strat more, which kinda makes me sad. I found some really cool g&ls with nice colors, and not that many pretty strats :(

Had loads of Fender Strats and didn't like them all but I have an 1989 Fender American Standard and love it...also have a USA Legacy and love it...love both for different reasons. Both great guitars

Some reviews on KZbin are dire and useless but this was quite useful. I would have to fly somewhere to purchase my next guitar and I'm sure a lot of people would be in this position. I have no idea why classical guitar sellers wouldn't advertise their goods more often like this for this level of guitar. The only criticism and Nightrise is correct...the only thing lacking is understanding the sustain but it's a great presentation so thank you.

I own both and I prefer the Fenders sound but the G&L are easier to play and get tolerable or "safe" tones. But the fender when, taking the time, tuning in certain tones is superior. Fender just gets some sounds the G&L lacks, albeit barely. Fender and Gibson still make the best pickups if you ask me. If you turn all knobs to 7 on the G&L it's similar to Fender all the way up. Tone controls are easier on G&L with bass/treble and bridge pup control that some Fenders don't have

G and L all day long Better value Better built Play better Sound better G and L try new things too improve Fender stay on the merry go round peddling the same old stuff! Ive owned 3 American strats and they were all nice but the G and L legacy is a improvement 👌

I have an 89 strat plus and a 07 G&L legacy USA. They both have their purpose and played on my Carr Telstar well a barge rope strung over a barrel would sound stellar on that amp but I digress they both are awesome

What size of string do you use? Because 5-6 strings of both guitars are buzz, i think the size is not factory recommended

Amazing how similar, yet the bridge pickup is way better on the G&L. I thought the middle pickup was a little better on the Fender, but over all G&L for the win. I'm buying one soon, the tobacco one. I'm putting Noisless pickups in it. They give you a more punchy, darker tone, that I prefer. Great review!

Excellent guitars. I have a bias: my first Collings was 1992, and I've owned an embarrassing number (sell one, but one, and on and on and on). My current is a D2HT, not terrified (but I wish it were) and I think it's the best Collings I've ever heard. A terrified OM.......? Ack.

Lots of comments about the tone differences. Those Tim Shaw pups in the Strat are nothing to turn your nose up at, and the tone know is your friend for either guitar in the bridge position. The set-up was quite poor on that G&L. The deciding factor for me would be the neck - the American Professional series has a thicker neck than any G&L I’ve tried (and I’ve owned several). I prefer the tone controls on G&L, but I always disconnect the tone controls from the neck pup anyway ;-). Between a USA Standard and a Legacy I’d go G&L any day, but I’d take the Professional over any G&L I’ve played.

Wow, what a nasty buzz from both..I own a G&L Legacy HB custom shop and a Fender Strat. None frets this way..not by a mile. I do prefer G&L for its better tone. But it's a matter of personal taste. Both are great.

Had an early 90’s Legacy for years tried to love it but could never get along with it. Beautifully made just isn’t a strat, it’s its own beast. Traded it for a 59 strat thinskin night and day difference & never looked back. Legacy is a modern take on a S style guitar and G&L did a nice job but it just doesn’t have that Strat feel and sound.
