Hi Steve! I was on deck 5 and yes the balcony is covered because you have other balconies above and below yours. The cruise was absolutely fantastic! If you have not been to Alaska yet you really can't imagine how stunning it is! I really enjoyed that on Holland America they opened the day that we cruised the glaciers for unobstructed views. Highly recommend!
