The display does indeed shows a lot of info: BPMs, number of BAR lenght, modes that are engaged, etc, but my shitty camera and angle doesnt reflect that. Maybe I will post a display zoom to show it. Thanks for the feedback!

Confused about the clock out. Doesn't seem to be sending a clock, to anything I have with clock inputs (For example on my 1010music Blackbox, Roland AIRA'S S-1, J-6, T-8, Korg SQ-1, Volca's, etc.) What am I missing here? 🤔

From the ones that you mention I only have the volca drum. You just connect the clock out to the sync in of the volca and they play in sync. Its as easy as it gets.

sweet. it sounds like it's using a 4-op structure, but monophonic?
@ZElTGElST13 күн бұрын
Its quite polyphonic indeed. It has 38 operators IIRC and up to 6 to 12 voices, depending on the algorithms, but not always obvious as you use to switch more of the OPs and algos in every step, but depending on the position of the pots you can get indeed a nice polyphony. This is quite an experimental synth and as it is now, you dont play notes individually, but "tune" and match sequences and sounds with the buttons, pots and timings. It could do regular pianoroll play in some future update firmware oriented like this, who knows, but currently is totally a different paradigm :)

Glitch Storm 2025 is a gateway.... Now I may need some of these more expensive ones..... But Glitch Storm 2025 is excellent fed to 1010music's Blackbox, to be at times granularized, other times sliced and re-sequenced, or just individually sampled singular sounds, turned into percussion, or melody sequences.... This seems like a far more focused, and more controlable Glitch Storm 2025. Well, really, SSS's machines all seem consistent with each other sounds-wise, but each seems to be especially focused on specific areas of music creation, more uniquely. . I sort of wish I would have understood better, what you've built, because even tho the GS 2025 is bonkers, I may have went for this unit first, for my needs. Amazing stuff you guys design. I want one of EVERYTHING. 😄

Glad that you get it. Super appreciated. It´s the very nature of our synths to have new and fresh approaches for the common, classic east coast/west coast/ FM things that have been made a million times. Each of our creatures are weird in it´s very different way... If I were you I would go for Wintermute and Fluorine first as they are truly fresh and unique. ONO is a bit more bread and butter, even if delicios to lay and get easy good sounding output, I would say winter and fluor are somehow more magical... In any case, thank you so much for your feedback, super appreciated!!

If you're able to modify the code for the OPL3 emulator you're using here you could get a lot more mileage out of this setup by just adding more waveforms. The OPL3 supports 8 waveforms, but any sloped waveform will work -- you could even just add the "missing" waveforms from the Yamaha TX81Z or Reface DX to great effect. The OPL3 also has four different 4-OP modes and it _might_ be possible to add more, but in any of its 4-OP modes the OPL3 only supports up to 6 voices -- the rest of the operators are fixed to 2-OP synthesis and percussion, which can probably be eliminated to get more voices out of the 4-OP modes.
@ZElTGElSTАй бұрын
Hey! You know this chips quite good. Yep, you are totally correct. In fact the TX81Z is prob my fave 4 op4 FM chip from Yamaha and I would love to have one and also to emulate one, but I think there´s no open source emulator from it, right? Regarding adding more waveforms Im still deciphering the guts of the emulator itself and its a cool thing to try. Adding more FM algos would be probably more complex but deffo feasible. I still have a ton of ideas to implement in the basic architecture of the regular OPL3 but Im writing your ideas to test it. Would be cool to get a mode where you just recombine the waveforms... You can do something quite similar with the Opera Rotas and is one of my fave ways to play it. If you have more ideas on how to develop or hack it, please share. Thaaanks!!
@blast_processing6577Ай бұрын
@@ZElTGElST I don't know of any open source TX81Z emulators, but I do know of a few other open sorce FM synths: Oxe FM Synth, libfmsynth, Digits, OctaSine, ADLPlug, Hexter, and Dexed. Oxe FM Synth and libfmsynth are probably the most capable of the bunch, but I don't know how easily you could adapt them for your purposes. You won't need to implement operator feedback if you implement a larger variety of waveforms, since feedback is just used to change an operator's waveform. For example, the DX7 presets I've picked apart always used feedback to just create a saw. You _might_ also be able to mimic the formant synthesis on the FS1R to some extent with waveforms derived from vocals -- such as "oooo's" and "ahhh's" -- if they're sufficiently sloped enough. If you're looking for some other easy wins, I think you'll find versatile envelopes can go far. Simply adding dynamics to the ADSRs would be incredibly useful, but you could also add an optional delay stage to the beginning of the envelopes, the ability to shape an LFO's depth by an envelope, etc. etc. I look forward to seeing what you can do here, keep up the good work!

@@blast_processing6577 Hi!. I was digging into your channel and basically we listen to the same music. Regarding the refernces that you mention, I know some of them, others are totally novel. I will take a good look and Im saving your messages in for the synth. In fact I have one of the ADLPLUG almost working in the Pico. The point is that pico is terribly slow with floats and only works decently with integers, so the more archaic and basic the engine, the better. OTOH, part of the magic of the yamaha FM sound chips comes for that ancient mathematics and the glitches of the trucncated waveforms and divisions. It sounds "warmer" and qute interesting... So thank you so much for your messages. I will take a good look at the sources as there´s still other ideas to implement that needs a non yamaha architecture to develop correctly. Cheers!

(Apologies if this comes through twice; KZbin seems to be having “issues”) This is exceptionally cool! Definitely want one! And BTW, I love the Gibson naming conventions you’ve been using lately. Just curious: how slowly can the LFO rate go? If this demo were said to be clocked in, say, sixteenth notes, can it go as slowly as whole notes (or even better, multiple measures of whole notes). I tend to use a lot of slower drones, and this would be great to add some additional interest. Regardless, if you’re committed to producing this as a product, then I can wait for full release (because I can only imagine what other sorts of firmware advancements you might make before release). But if this will only be a one-off prototype, then please message me because I would be interested in that.

Im in love with this proto so if I dont find some big trouble developing will probably be released before or later. Maybe the final version is wildy different or quite similar. Honestly I dont have an idea yet as it still ahve to mature a good chunk. What I would probably end doing is offering different firmwares with different flavors so the user can play the version that is more tailored to his tastes. I would wait and see.
