How much the place has changed in the last 55 or so years. The campsite back then, was just the middle section of what you see today. Across the burn, was essentially an overflow area for busy times, and back then, only caravans were allowed in there. Access to the overflow area was from the main road - there was no vehicle bridge at that time. There was, and I'm guessing still is, a pedestrian bridge over the burn, giving access from the centre section to the ablutions block, which appears to be the exact same structure that I recall from so many years ago. It looks like the camp warden's house is no longer there, nor the little shop which was attached to it. It was in the general area of the log cabin just inside the main entrance. We had such good and happy times there, in the sixties and seventies, and somehow, just viewing this video fills me with sadness, perhaps because I know that there is no chance I will ever be able to see the place again. I noticed that the burn is almost dry these days, and the water level in the loch is a good six to eight feet lower that it used to be all those years ago. I noticed too that the little jetty which stood at the water's edge is no longer there. I'd guess that if it were, its deck would be around twelve feet above the beach level, and would be a dangerous thing to have around where kids can play. I shall retire to bed filled with melancholy tonight, for the memories of family holidays when the world made more sense. Happy days when life was full of fun and the future was still waiting to be explored. The long drive across to Edinburgh to see the Tattoo every August. I can't help but feel choked up at the thought my mum and dad, both gone now, and the family, dispersed and never seeing nor talking to each other. Strange how a happy place can leave one feeling so sad.

My father George grew up in this beautiful village. He always said he was very lucky to have grown up in such a wonderful place. I cherish memories of visiting my Nana and Granddad here in the 1970/80's and playing in the woods and beach. I still visit the graves when I am in Scotland.

Great stuff. I booked an NTS place (Claybokie) just outside Braemar last year for a family get together when it was allowed. I realised how much I had underestimated that part of Scotland: it was magic. A day spent at the Linn O'Dee was the icing on the gingerbread at a time when we all needed a wee treat. Thanks for bringing the memories back.ATB,Terry
