Brilliant video; thank you. I've been playing bass off and on for 40+ years (mostly off, I should add!), and YYZ has been something I've _always_ wanted to be able to play, but have never found the time to do. This breakdown has inspired me to have another go 🙂

It’s not that bent actually just the angle from my forearm to wrist makes it seem that way haha. I should’ve shown from the behind angle.

Andrew, I have some questions about your course. Is there an email address to contact you directly? My main question is the 9.00 introductory course is a great deal and I’m seriously interested in it but don’t want to get started with the 9.00 course and then not be able to afford the rest of the courses so my question is how much more do the levels cost. I couldn’t find it on the website. Thanks

Dude I love your videos! They always have great exercises. Which bass do you enjoy more for general play, favoring slap? Your music man or the Warwick thumb I saw in the background?

Come on, man. Every single youtube video in existence apparently features someone or something that is "underrated"... but it is usually some bozo in the comments who had never heard of the band before, so assumes that no one has, and somehow thinks that this defines "underrated". There is an entire Wiki page JUST for the awards ABBA has won. What is your definition of "underrated"? According to KZbin, even the BEATLES were underrated. Do tell, exactly who is underrating them?

My fave MG bass line is from You Should be Dancing. Once that baseline gets, stuck in my head it will play in my mind for days! Maurice was my favorite BeeGee, it was such a tragedy the way his life ended. RIP Maurice, know you still have millions of fans and people who think of you and love you!!

That’s great advice. This is the first time I’ve heard this played on a bass (aside from the recording, of course), my ex used to play this on a sousaphone (marching tuba).

I am tickled that you recognize the greatness that ABBA presented. Great singing, great playing, great songs! Back in the day I was also quite taken with Frida, LOL! I have a great story of how I was introduced to ABBA's music, but too much for this forum. Keep it up.

My personal opinion is that Gunnarson's lines were simple by most standards; Bassists, who have played for a couple of years, could easily play those lines if they worked at it. However, that was beauty of his style. Simple, not simple.

Hearing the live version only goes to underscore what a great band ABBA were. Obviously, the behs is sublime. FWIW I took the "underrated band" comment as a lot of people believing them to be a great pop group, but not realise just how talented they were as a band. Also, having sat through many many kareoke session where people absolutely murdered this song, I must admit did wince a little at the start, putely as an involuntary reaction and totally unfounded though.

Absoluetly right. Rutger was one of the top notch bass players of all time. And thats the big secret - complex bass lines, sounds easy but so hard to develop and play. go beyond the music creates such a deeper meaning to easy pop songs... thanks for this channel.

Astrologically speaking - noone has to read this that isn´t interested - both Björn and Benny have their Moons in the Moon house /nakshatra / hasta, which gives the person a natural talent for receiving in their hands what the need, by just putting it out there. They needed a singer - sure, one fell in Björn´s hand - his girlfriend - and another one in Benny´s. And when they needed a bassplayer, the very best just showed up. Frida´s nakshatra is the very giving and potentially spiritual UttaraBhadrapada, and I´m quite sure that she played an important role as a muse of the group. ABBA often touches spiritual themes, even though the main lyrics writer Björn is a declared atheist. Agnetha´s nakshatra is the multitasking Vishaka, which tends to make the person want to play many roles, and often all of them. To her being restricted to basically one role in the group took a toll on her. She wanted to be a mother and a composer as well and finally her frustration was what broke up the group, I guess one could say. No blame in that, she really sacrificed her other dreams for many years.
