I don't really understand how to navigate PoB. I managed to copy the build in but thats about it. Thank you for this guide! I am really trying to get into PoE1 even though I am a tad late to the party. I have a level 24 witch following this guide (kind of- didn't think i'd need the novice guide but I do lol) and a level 54 necromancer following a PoB i can link here IF you want to check it out. I am super lost, on act 6, and struggling to stay alive. my Res are all around 30% each aside from chaos which is at 58% because of an armor piece i have on that halves my hp and gives 50% chaos resist. any and all advice you can offer is welcome and appreciated. I am 100% continuing to watch this guide and you, sir, have earned yourself another subscriber!

@@TheRealChacorta hey man, welcome! Totally understandable. POE is the game everyone thinks they can come in and just waltz through with their ARPG experience then learn otherwise the hard way, you’re not alone :) Resistances are super crucial and I always tell people act 6 is where the rubber meets the road. Enemies start having herder hitting elemental abilities AND you take the -30% permanent debuff at the end of act 5 so you’re getting it from both sides. I’ve just got to emphasize that resistances are not optional. Aim for 75% resistances to all but chaos, and around ~300 life per act so you should hopefully be around 1,500 or higher by now. First thing you’ve got to do is ditch that armor, sounds like you’re probably talking about ghostwrithe. Until you can reliably recover energy shield AND scale energy shield on the tree, stick to pure life. In POE unique items are not better by default, and this one may be getting you killed. Speaking of the tree though, don’t forget to be taking life nodes on the tree. By the time you hit maps your % life nodes on the tree should be totaling over 100%. Outside of the tree, in order to get your life and resistances up, you need to aggressively use your crafting bench on any items with open prefixes for life or suffixes for resistances. Also use essences liberally on white items, and get good resistance rings. Two-stone rings are most efficient, but any resistance ring is good. If need be you can re-run areas or go do heist or delve or something to try and get life and resistances, but they are crucial. Beyond that, best defense is a good offense. Kill stuff before it kills you. Make sure you’ve got a 4 link for your main skill and all 3 support gems are giving you good damage. You can always grind experience to brute force level up your gems, but that should only rarely be necessary. Having a 4 link with a good skill is usually enough.

Any and all advice you can provide would be awesome. Welcome to the game! Lots to unpack here but I'll do my best. As for not many people playing, that's normal. The longer we go between new content the fewer players there are, that's just the normal cycle, and it's being enhanced by the presence of POE2 drawing off some players and by the VERY long time since any new content (longest in like a decade I think). Prioritizing gear and currency is definitely a complex topic and in part it just requires hours and hours of experience, research, soaking up content about the game etc. But here are a few basic tips: during the campaign, don't use chromes, jewelers, fusings unless you're paying for a crafting bench recipe or you can afford to lose 5+ of them. Don't try to get "off colors" (gem sockets with colors not associated with that gear's attribute requirements, red/str, blue/int, green/dex). In the campaign its better to find the socket link/color combinations you need then throw an orb of alchemy or an essence on the item and hope for 1-2 good stats. Sockets are more valuable. Gear at this point is just sockets first, then life and resist on non-weapon gear, and if you are a spellcaster/minion build then +gem levels on your weapons, plus bonuses to whatever kind of damage you're dealing (fire, chaos, minion, etc). Campaign gear is very simple and doesnt adhere to a "build", just get life everywhere and cap out your ele resists. You'll get permanent resist penalties after acts 5 and 10, so be sure to keep upgrading all the time. Seriously, life and resists on ALL non-weapon gear. You should have around ~300 more life by the end of each act, aiming to finish the 10 act campaign with around 3,000 life. And keep up those resistances, having 75% to all but chaos are mandatory (and chaos res doesnt hurt to have either). The side mechanics you mentioned are very important for me to mention: this is a super common illusion the game presents and I fell victim to it myself for a long time. Treat those ONLY like the previews at the start of a movie. Optionally invest enough time in them to get a feel for what they do, then move on. They can be reasonable sources of gear/currency if you're really struggling, but honestly they don't become truly worthwhile until the endgame, so for now you're just being introduced to them gradually. Most people ignore them entirely until endgame then sort of pick one at a time to learn about so they're not "drinking from the firehose" of information, the way I am sure it feels for you right now. My advice is not to spend more than 30 minutes each on them if you decide to try them at all prior to endgame, they really only serve to hold you up and prevent you from getting to the "real" game, aka endgame maps where you can actually juice those mechanics up and find some worthwhile items and currency in them. Stop by with more questions or join my discord, always happy to help!

Any opinions on the trans gems?
@buffalobaronКүн бұрын
@@5chneemensch138 yeah that’s a good question, I did play around with those in POB and just couldn’t get them to deal as much damage in this specific setup as the normal gem. The main benefit to the oscillating gem is that you can play with hydrosphere shenanigans for single target DPS, but that doesn’t help the single target of an ignite build since we’d rather have a larger initial hit than several fast medium sized hits. I think maybe arc of surging could theoretically have potential in a situation where you’re not facing trash mobs OR single targets but rather stacks of many very tough enemies, something like simulacrum or heavily delirious maps. The gem sacrifices the “more damage per remaining chain” effect to just add generally more damage to all enemies hit by it. This brings down the top end single target damage while bringing up the low end mob clearing damage. I think it would require a pretty niche circumstance for that to be effective though, especially since the build has a good amount of ignite proliferation and explosions, meaning that you don’t actually need every single hit with arc to be dealing maximum damage, the higher damage ignites can proliferate. And I don’t believe either of the trans quality gems offer as big of an initial hit (for making juicy ignites) as the normal gem. Ultimately I think the trans quality gems would find a better home in hit-based arc builds than ailment based like this one. Thanks for the question though!

@13:26 Your point about PoB enabling a “new set of eyes” to take a look at your build is one of the most often used utilities of the program in my experience! Nice work on the video - Gg
@jasonator537 күн бұрын
Edit: I see now that POB shows the calculation differently than I understood it to be, seems as though I’ve learned something today :) I’ll leave the question up as is for posterity. Is the statement at 38:38 correct? i’ve been under the impression that EVERY “more/less” modifier is applied separately after the “increased/reduced” modifiers, which is a much higher magnitude of effectiveness compared to the calculation you spell out in the video. for example: 100 damage with 2 sources of “40% more damage” is the calculation [40% + 40% = 80% => 180 damage] OR [40% x100dmg = 140 dmg 40% x140dmg => 196 dmg]? i understand “increased” calculations work like the first example, but i’d always thought “more” calculations are like the second. is that correct, or am I missing something here?
@jasonator537 күн бұрын
fantastic guide though, i just had that question since it didn’t match what I thought i knew about the game lol
@buffalobaron7 күн бұрын
@@jasonator53 Maybe I stated it badly but I definitely meant to convey that increased/reduced happens first and is then multiplied again by more/less. I simplified it because the video was aimed at beginners but the reality is closer to “getting too much of one or the other has diminishing returns and in practical terms once you have 700% increased damage, if you have the choice between another 80% increased or 40% more, take the 40% more, and once you have 1,000% more another 40% won’t matter as much as finding ways to go after increased (or crit or cast speed or whatever). It’s true that in isolation “more” has a larger impact. But in the practical reality of the game you may eventually need to choose what to invest in/focus on, and the answer will come down to whatever your builds current balance is.
@jasonator537 күн бұрын
@@buffalobaron that’s very interesting, i didn’t realize those buckets were so similar in function. I appreciate the thoughtful reply, keep up the good work!
@buffalobaron7 күн бұрын
@@jasonator53 yeah. I actually don’t know if there’s a good “obvious” example to illustrate the point in POE 2 yet, but I tend to think of examples like Divine Ire from POE 1. www.poewiki.net/wiki/Divine_Ire The gem has a function baked in that you can charge it up to 2,160% “More” damage. At that point adding a keystone that gives you 30% more damage to take you up to 2,190% instead seems kind of lackluster. You’d rather spend that point on almost anything else that gets the base damage or % increased damage up higher to take advantage of all that juicy More damage you already have. So if I load that skill up into POB 1 and use the function to get suggested gems it won’t show me any that give More damage, the 40% more from something like concentrated effect would be a drop in the bucket. Instead it shows me gems to get flat added damage “physical as extra lightning” damage (which takes place near the end of the damage calculation but separately from “more”), and resistance penetration. It doesn’t show “increased” gems because most gems just don’t do that. You could still take advantage of the interaction though by (for example) dropping concentrated effect from your links, adding arcane surge, then spec out of points on the tree or cluster jewels that give you arcane surge, using those points to take % increased damage instead for an overall DPS boost instead of using conc effect.
@HotPocketRemixYT7 күн бұрын
@@buffalobaron This isn't true. I mean, yes, PoB will recommend those gems because with that high of a multiplier, getting flat damage is better than the More damage from Conc. Effect. But More multipliers are *always* multiplicative in the damage step, they are not all bucketed together like Increased multipliers are. PoB will compute an effective total More multiplier for the damage step, but it's still multiplicative. Let me give an example (in PoB1, since I'm familiar with it). On the starting default Scion, click Pain Attunement, it should path out through the spell damage and the Harrier notable. Set up Divine Ire with 10 stages on Release and look at the damage calculation for it in the Calcs tab. The "Total More" for the skill should be 2160%, as you were saying. The character is not on low life, so the 30% More Spell Damage from Pain Attunement is currently doing nothing. In the Configuration tab, check "Are you always on Low Life?" in the General pane to force Pain Attunement to be active. Now the Total More value has changed, but it's not 2190%. It is 2838%. That is, the multiplier is 29.38x, which is exactly what you'd expect from combining the 22.6x multiplier from Divine Ire and the 1.3x multiplier from Pain Attunement, as 22.6 x 1.3 = 29.38. Despite having 2160% more damage from Divine Ire and only a total of 64% increased damage from the tree, even here, a 30% More multiplier is better than a 30% Increased multiplier -- and it always will be, not just in this scenario. Disable Low Life and then look at the 10 Stage Release data for Divine Ire in the left pane, the Average Hit should be 2946.9. In the Configuration tab, you can type Custom Modifiers. Typing "30% increased spell damage" makes the average hit 3795.8, while typing "30% more spell damage" makes the average hit 4095.4. You would need 39% increased damage to get up to the same average hit, and this is an extreme case where the character has basically no increased damage. If the player already had a total of 300% increased damage, then the average hit would be 11702.2, a 30% more multiplier would take it to 16214.9, and getting that same increase using increased damage would take an extra 120% increased spell damage. More multipliers are extremely valuable, which is why they basically only come from keystones and support gems.

@buffalobaron9 күн бұрын
@@pancerny565 I’m not sure what “moralistic” means in this context, but to the rest of your question, absolutely yes. That’s one of the primary things I do in POB. Load up a build, play with it, change how I get my defenses, tinker with how I would do a lower budget and/or higher budget version of it, maybe try to alter it to need fewer button clicks or better damage proliferation, or ailment immunity etc. The program hasn’t been out long so you may not find many POB build files out there yet but any KZbin video guides or forum guides starting within the past week or so should include a POB code if you want to load it up a copy and tinker with it.

Is there some way to force it to calculate DPS properly for a skill like Rapid Shot? I get an enormous amount of damage out of the 'heat' level of the skill, as well as 'fresh clip' buffing for recent-reloads, and so far as I can tell neither of these are calculated properly (or at all for that matter)
@buffalobaron10 күн бұрын
@@DarkDobe that’s a great question. At the moment it appears that very little of that skill is being calculated by POB, you can tell when a mod isn’t being calculated when it’s written in red instead of blue. This skill may have to wait for a future update, it’s not uncommon for this type of complexity to need to get rolled out in waves (especially since they had to rush the release this time). And honestly this is a COMPLICATED one to implement right. They will have to implement a setting in the configuration page to let you toggle how much heat you have, and if they’re feeling fancy they might have a checkbox for “assume it’s being fired at max heat” or “assume it’s being fired at average heat and you are firing continuously” or some such. In the meantime you could mentally estimate approximately much average heat you think you have in a given scenario then go to the “custom modifiers” section of configuration. I didn’t cover this in the video since it’s a bit complex but basically it’s a free text entry, but if you can phrase a custom option in a way the program understands as being a normal game mod, it will apply it to your build. It obeys the same red/blue rules so you can immediately tell if you phrased it right. I was able to make it work with “Gain 28% of damage as extra fire damage” and you could modify the number there to at least get an approximation of what heat is doing for the damage-per-hit of the skill. As for estimating the attack speed, like I said it will come down to whether you want to assume “just starting to fire” or “it’s a boss and I’ve been wailing on him for a few seconds already.” If the latter, no speed modifier necessary. If the former you may want to custom mod some reduce attack speed mod to try and approximate it.

so in case anyone finds this gem of a video i’m here to further the conversation of how all of these interactions work. First i would say that as a player you should ask yourself why do you need into the darkness on top of consuming questions, and if you are trying to capitalize off of the damage bonus from undeserved darkness, the acolyte ascendancy offers cheaper ways to get good damage output such as lucid dreaming or reality rending. I do think that Mind over Matter will become a meta build with acolyte of chayula but only when it’s not paired with darkness. If you read “Consuming Questions” it states that mana leech now gives energy shield, meaning if you make a high mana high energy shield build, you essentially become very tanky. The MoM synergy with this will mean that you will first take damage from your energy shield, then when you run out of energy shield you start losing mana next, while you are leeching mana you will b e also gaining energy shield so from a hit point perspective your hitpoint gain value from mana leech is double. grabbing Eldritch battery kills the whole point of the also regenerating shields, which theoretically could still be viable for a darkness build, just don’t grab the second node, only the instant mana leech one. Back to the MoM synergy, an important aspect to this is a support gem called”life force” this allows a skill to cost health rather than mana, now turning your health into your mana, and healing potions have a greater value than mana potions, but life doesn’t have any good nodes so by swapping them around you create a very synergistic build where you can spec into mana regeneration and maximum mana, which now becomes hp basically, and your health becomes your mana, which you will regulate by getting equipment with hp leech or better yet hp per hit, as hp per hit will negate the skill close of most skills. The problem with MoM is that if you take to much damage and get hit you will have no mana and your health would be useless anyways as you would have no means to protect yourself without mana, which is why having your skill use life makes the synergy work perfectly. Why is darkness not that good? well darkness is not good the same reason why life isn’t that good: scaling. Darkness gives you 385 hit points at level 50 and 660 at level 100. An extra 385 hit points is very valuable earlier in the games but late game the damage output of enemies multiples magnitudes faster than that of how much hit points you have. Darkness cannot scale very high and it also makes it so you don’t have spirit, which is a huge downfall as that means you are losing a lot of build potential. However darkness comes with the benefit of not making you lose honor in trials of sekhema, making it easy to manage honour if you run this, prioritizing evasion and armor to maximize its potency. Darkness would be good for trial farm builds, but by no means is it something to spec into with the intention of it as a dps node. I’ve been using darkness for early mapping as the extra hit points seems to be just enough for me to survive a lot of high damage attacks. So what are good ascendany point spreads? For trials, Go embrace darkness, inner silence, chayula gift, then either into the breach or reality rending, if you want to get free reservation support gems go into the breach, if you need a little more dps go reality rending. If you plan on focusing on phys damage grab ravenous doubts, consuming questions, then i would recommend pairing this with chayula gift, it will make it so you can reach very high levels of chaos res very easy, making it so you don’t need to run Chaos Innoculation, you could still if you wanted to though. If you go Chaos innoculation route, then the only other option for you is go for into the breach lucid dreams, which i believe combined with consuming questions is going to be the best combo for high end chayula players. Into the breach effects being doubled makes it so when you use mantra of destruction which guarantees purple flames from kills using empowered skill, it makes it very easy to have 100% uptime on 10 stacks of flame of chayula, which also would be 140% added chaos damage , you can use falling thunder or tempest bell as good skills to generate the flames. The only downside to this is you wouldnt ever get 10 stacks in a boss fight and going reality rending int terms of bossing is better if you have no dps problems with mapping. the 33% added chaos damage you could get from into the darkness has nothing on lucid dreaming in terms of dps, you only need to keep up 3 flames at any given moment to have more dps value from it then from darkness at level 100.

Hi, and is the arson spreading?

The layering is actually not a bad point. Letting mana leech recover that first layer. But i think leech still doesnt work with our dots so its still kind of a broken class. Correct me if im wrong. Like. Yes there are some choices that sre direct damage but most of our chaos spells are dots.
@Vaisukin29 күн бұрын
You could play acolyte of chayula for spells but that’s not the main intention, even in the picture the monk is holding a quarter staff. base quarter staff kit doesn’t have any dots, and chaos damage doesn’t apply one either all the skills just happen to choose to do it in terms of over time,use palm of chayula and you will see no damage over time done. chaos is just like physical damage, most chaos skills just happen to apply a dot but for the acolyte of chayula you get bonus damage as chaos and there is no dot involved, example is if you have 100 phys damage and 100 lightning damage in your setup and you use reality rending and hit the 100% extra chaos damage, you will do 100 phys 100 lightning, and 200 chaos, before damage calculations such as increased elemental damage or increased chaos damage. The leech is a little complex, lots of people are saying leech sucks, but the only reason it sucks is because they are using it with skills that convert most of your damage to lightning damage which in turn means you leech less. Example again you have a weapon with 100 physical damage and you have 10% mana leech of phys damage in your kit, and you use charged staff, charged staff attack converts 80% to lightning so you are only leeching 10% of 20% of that 100, so 2 mana( even less than that because charged staff unless high gem level attack damage is usually under 100%). Now let’s say you use a skill that is no conversion like whirlwind assault. Now you are doing 100% phys damage and leeching 10% of that which is 10 mana. same with tempest bell. Tempest flurry and ice strike are on every single monk build which is the reason every monk thinks that the leech sucks, it’s because they aren’t even building for it , you lose to much value from it if the skill converts a lot of damage to an element. A good strategy for the acolyte is to take consuming questions but don’t take embrace the darkness, as they don’t synergize well. Staggering palm, tempest bell, and once you get to late game and have enough attack speed to make it efficient whirlwind assault will be your best friends for leech builds as they do not convert damage to another element(tempest bell does but only if imbued) Hope this helps a little, i haven’t looked too much into what other skills would work good but a key tip for damage on monk is mantra of destruction can generate purple flames of chayula without you even picking up into the breach. hope this helps a little

So did it worked ?

ofc it works, but its 20-25 skill points away from where the monk starts

Does this work?
@Vaisukin29 күн бұрын
he made a new video and the answer is no it doesn’t work, you lose darkness before you lose mana as the order of damage taken is darkness, energy shield, life, grabbing MoM makes it so now it becomes darkness,es, mana, life, meaning you still will be losing darkness and not maintaining that damage buff,however he was on to something, grab consuming questions ascendancy node which lets leech benefit both your mana and your energy shield, grab MoM but do not grab darkness, it’s useless later game except for trials. What this does is make it so when you leech you are basically getting double hitpoints value from it since your mana leech now counts as hitpoints because of MoM along with gaining energy shield from mana leech due to the ascendancy. For maximum damage during mapping grab lucid dreaming ascendancy node, it doubles the effect of the flames along with duration, including the ones you generate from mantra of destruction, meaning each flame you have is 14% damage, lasts 10 seconds and can stack up to 10% meaning you could have 140% added chaos damage,and the most synergistic part about it is that no one mentions it but the blue flames and red flames count as LEECH this us important because that means if you pick up the blue flame that generates 14% mana you are also gaining that value worth in energy shields due to your other ascendancy node consuming questions, along with being able to scale this with skill tree nodes.

MOM is so far on the passive tree. Have you been able to further improve the build? It's very interesting cause I'm also running an acolyte of Chayula build myself. And I wanna see if there's a "Cloak of Defiance" equivalent unique in POE2 as it was was in POE1. That would solve alot of issues with passives.
