Every other off roader recommend 37s
@ReconRangers
@ReconRangers 12 күн бұрын
A lot of people think that, but based on our experience, the difference between the two is minimal. One may as well go up bigger than 37s unless the vehicle is already equipped with 37s. Then again, it's all about what one uses the vehicle for...

I know you mentioned getting a GMRS or a HAM license, but it should be pointed out that the radio you re holding is a HAM radio (UV-5R). the UV-5G is a GMRS and all the channels are preprogramed. also the licenses are not interchagable, it all depends what kind of radio you are using. that being said, the FCC is not going to come knocking on your door if you use one you don't have a license for. though HAM heads can be very touchy about it.

Great input and thank you for that. My main point was to enlighten others on how important and useful a 2 way Radio is out on the trail. That being said, there are obviously rules and regulations that go along with the types of radios being used and I would hope others that don't know would reach out so they can be guided by those like us. Thanks for your comment and contribution...73s

I guess these off-road people never saw an old 1970's truck with factory Posi on the Rear AND Front. Hard to turn corners with the front hubs locked on pavement...(they will literally bounce themselves clear off the ground.) However for off-roading they make a cyber-truck look like a cyber warrior toy.

@@ReconRangers I am just curious. I watched the launch of the Cybertruck, and does it still have the weird Battlestar Galactica screen when launching in (SS mode), super sport mode? @@ReconRangers My brother has a 2007 Toyota Tundra 5.7 4wd supercharged with 4.56 gears in it. It's just baffling how much instant torque your truck has though. For off roading I grew up on 3-wheelers, then quads, my last quad was a 2008 Polaris Outlaw 525S. I also had a 500 Outlaw IRS, but the independent rear suspension for a sport quad (jumping and whoop-de-doo's), just doesn't work AT ALL! It is nice to see an honest decent person on KZbin for once, so I subscribed.

People off-roading this thing are going to need to go over 200 miles of range?
@ReconRangers
@ReconRangers 2 ай бұрын
For starters, most trails that we go to are at least 100 miles just to get to so, unless you are close to the trail, that is something to take into account. Also, trail miles will use way more "energy" than "laboratory style/street" miles, so that is something one would definitely need to take into consideration.

Cybertruck charges to 70% in 30 minutes, but unless you are going on a long trail, it will outperform all stock ICE trucks. And still be perfect when you aren't offroading. For 140 miles take a generator for insurance. But it has range over 300miles, so even less due to offroading should meet your needs.
@ReconRangers
@ReconRangers 2 ай бұрын
Your bold statement that "it will outperform all stock internal combustion engine trucks" is definitely a reach. Can you elaborate on why you feel that way?
@ReconRangers
@ReconRangers 2 ай бұрын
@Abebe345 You're proving my point about the impracticality of a Cybertruck for off-roading. Sure, it might outperform most stock ICE trucks in a straight line, but it'll lose a few percent of its battery in the process. All jokes aside, the Cybertruck is perfectly fine for non-off-road scenarios, like running errands with a close-to-home charging station. ICE trucks take five minutes or less to refuel to 100% every single time, while the Cybertruck takes 30 minutes to charge to 70% on a fast charger, and you can add additional 30-40 minutes to reach 100%. Even if you could fast charge the Cybertruck every time, it's not recommended because it degrades the battery faster. Speaking of battery degradation, an ICE truck's range remains the same whether it's new or 20 years old. The Cybertruck's range decreases slightly with each charge and discharge. That's just how batteries work and that's one of the reasons you are not supposed to charge it more than 80%, or let it drop below 30% daily. To sum it up, ICE trucks have 100% of their range available within minutes, there are plenty of gas stations for quick refueling, and you can carry extra fuel when off-roading. In contrast, the Cybertruck takes a long time to recharge, you can't easily top off, and no one wants to carry a generator to charge an EV when off-roading.

@@ReconRangers Good question and I should qualify (I am unfortunately addicted to the truck and have watched any content I find if I'm taking a break). What I meant that across all the uses of trucks nowadays from daily driving, off road, towing, hauling, agility, handling, ride etc, it fails at long distance towing, hauling like all EVs, but I don't think you can find anything that gives you the combination it does. It's good at all of that. The price is obscene, but so is demand at this time.

@Abebe345
@Abebe345 2 ай бұрын
@@ReconRangers Point taken about the practicality of refueling ICE trucks. Agree 80% for Cybertruck battery type. It comes down how often you offroad for long distance. Assuming you have one truck, not sure for vast majority the occasional long offroad ttip will be a reason to go ICE, but you have to get the best tool for the job and that will be personal.

You are correct that it's a vehicle designed for city streets, making it ideal for short errands around town, especially if you can charge it at home. It's not meant for offroading, much like any other electric vehicle. Can you take it offroading? Sure, but that's like taking a Honda Civic offroading (no disrespect to Civics)-just because you can doesn't mean it's a good idea. For the record, I didn't buy a Cybertruck, nor am I driving one. The video was recorded in my Ford F150 Raptor. Hope you are having a great day after 4th of July :)
