Visited St Michaels on Sunday / yesterday. Myself, wife and 2 year old son. After a christening something very strange happened. Now I have not been to church in a few years, but thought I should attend. After the christening the minister / reverend said anyone with children under 5 could go to the crèche but with only 1 parent. As we do everything as a family we felt the only option was to leave. Not very welcoming especially since we drove 30 minutes to get there. Turned away by the church. Thoughts are this is not what I remember and felt a bit sad having to get up and carry my son out. Anyone got any thought on what happened, remembering I have not been to church in years.

Yet again the church is neither the light in the world nor salt of the earth. Going along with society and ignoring the blaring alarm sounds of what is going on in Canada and Netherlands who have tried this and are now killing people with mental illness.

I heard very little here from a faith perspective. There was almost nothing from the Bible. It was almost all the same as what secular folk would say.

I may not be religious but I understand the sentiment.

He speaks about loyalty to God and following Christ above all else but also speaks of sharing fellowship with false religions and those who represent opposition to the message of the Gospel. Surely he must know why the Reformation was fought? English Reformers before him were burned at the stake because they opposed the perversions of Rome’s doctrine. What would he say if he stood face to face with John Bradford or Latimer or Ridley? If he sees no issue with Rome why not become a Roman Catholic? It makes no sense.

Turning to faith, I want to be apart of my community, support the traditions of my locality and preserve the infrastructure that our distant relatives painstakingly built to honour the God and Christ. It's clear to me now that Matthew 4:4 holds weight. I'm put off by the church moving away from traditions based on the Word of God. There is no 'conservative' (not in the political sense) Protestant denominations in my town. The Church seems to have a blind spot, for the resurgence of those looking for guidance in the chaos of modernity. No matter what happens to society, the church will stand strong if it is built on the rock, Matthew 16:18-19 , and young disillusioned people like myself will return.

Gods law is not man’s law. Church has often forgotten the actual life of Jesus the Christ in showing us how to live, why we suffer, and how we grow in love. Kierkegaard in the mid 19th century was clear on this, and today we have Fr Richard Rohr the best international speaker and preacher I have come across by far.

I am 74 years old and at the age of 8 I knew that I was an Atheist. I went to a boarding school that was very religious. I'm still Atheist.

Who got it right? The divines of the seventeenth century or their successors in the twenty-first century? And who is to say that the divines of the twenty-second century will not say that they both got it wrong? This is what happens when you leave it to individuals to decide for themselves how to interpret the Bible. You get as many interpretations as there are people doing the interpreting. But it goes further. We now have people telling us that they can decide the “substance of the faith”. And finally, the proposal is to have different and, possibly, conflicting statements of belief. And this, somehow, is to foster unity. As for the ecumenical creeds, these are just words and can, and are, interpreted differently by different people, so that doesn’t foster unity either. Ask a liberal member of the Church of Scotland how he interprets “he was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried, and the third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father” or “we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.”

I don't know if it was deliberate or not but just after the Archbishop had talked about the most diverse nation on earth, the camera swung to a section of the audience. They were all white and were mostly, if not entirely, in the upper age range of the population. One of them looked in a very meditative position.
