Gerf, just subbed to you! Took the bike ride with you, I’ve got COPD and I can tell you we’re having a time with it back 7 years ago, sorry! That’s totally out for me these days! Keep on keeping on 🤗

So am I. But wig-wags were still fairly common in those days, so I didn't bother. :(

I miss the sound of those EMD two strokes screaming up Donner Pass. That sweet bass drone would reverberate through the entire valley.

The sheer volume they were pushing on that predominantly single track main with passing sidings at that time was mind-boggling. It was routine for a southbound to sit in the hole for up to TEN trains to pass before finally leaving. Basically, three mainlines worth of trains squeezed onto a single track! Felt sorry for the poor dispatcher!

Gerald, bro, where ya been? LOL Dad worked for IC, then ICG, back to IC, then CN for a few years and retirement, started in '59' retired in '02'ish, conductor on passenger and rode caboose on freight and coal as brakeman/switchman/conductor until he got the Fulton KY coal run 3 days round trip, then he got the Ballwin coal run, which were probably the two "coveted" runs at the time for miles and then being home every night so to speak before retirement. I wish I could see more trainspotter footage of S IL from the E St.Louis/Madison/Venice/Sauget down to any of the strip pits from all over S IL back in the day, he hauled coal out of New Athens, Freeburg, Marissa and others, as a kid I he took me to the Freeburg maintenance shed for the mines there and one time this guy in a 3 piece suit came in this nasty nothing but the smell of diesel and grease repair shed, takes off his jacket and starts playing craps with the guys on the biggest piece of plywood I've ever seen to this day, had to of been an 1 1/2 thick 10ft by 8 ft I still remember the guys name Irl Englehardt, later Dad told he who he was, Mine manager for basically all things Peabody coal.

Just for curiosity’s sake I would like to know what reason you would have had to block my account. I have never addressed you in chat, nor you me, and I am generally respectful to all. I’ll respect your decision either way, but I would appreciate a response. Thanks! The trains are pretty cool btw….

Well, either you don’t receive notifications from older videos, or you choose to ignore them if you do, but at this point I feel justified in believing that I’m better off the way things are. 🤷♂️
