This is the time when everyone tries to come back home because of the worship of their clan goddess, Gandheshwari. The perfume-trading Gandhabanik worship Durga as Gandheshwari. Some members of the Gandhabanik are Shaivites, some are Buddhists, and others are Jains, but Gandheshwari is the clan goddess for all. The idol construction for the goddess's worship is complete. The worship will take place during Buddha Purnima. The priest and the men and women of the Gandhabanik community will offer hymns to the Mother from their respective places today: Singhastha Shashishekharā Marakataprakhyā Chaturbhirbhujaḥ Shaṅkhaṁ Chakradhanuḥ Sharānścha Dadhatī Netraistrivibhiḥ Shobhita Amuktāṅgada-Hāra-Kaṅkaṇa-Raṇat-Kāñchīkvaṇan Nūpurā Durgā Durgatihāriṇī Bhavatu No Ratnollasatkuṇḍalā Durga, riding a lion, shining like an emerald, holding a conch, discus, bow, and arrow in her four hands, adorned with three eyes, and decorated with armlets, garlands, bangles, anklets that produce a sweet, melodious sound, and radiant earrings, may she destroy our misfortunes. Who could have known then that 2,000 years later, the culture of Persia, the religion of Zoroaster, the worship of fire, the god Mithra, the Minoan culture of Crete, their religion, the mother goddess, and the bull demon would all disappear? Yet, Goddess Durga would continue to protect her children, providing them with the strength to engage in the regular struggle against the demons. Durga will be worshipped as Dhakeshwari, in the original, pure form of Durga, this autumn.
