I think the Move were great but, considering Traffic, they might not've been the best band out of Birmingham.

It's always baffled me that the Move never got the kudos they deserved - I look upon them as the great 'lost' British band of the 60's in the credibility stakes. To me they're up there with the Who, Small Faces, Yardbirds, Creation etc. Really great creative psychedelic pop singles, a master songwriter in Roy Wood, explosive live show when they were breaking through and they looked good too, with a punky attitude to boot. Was it a London thing and the fact they had Brummie accents, so were never considered 'cool' by the elite of the time?

I totally agree with everything you say. I don’t know why some bands don’t make it when lesser ones do. In the 1970s there was Stackridge - George Martin said they were his favourite band after The Beatles. Have you heard of them? Supremely talented, as were Gentle Giant, and yet…

The Move were huge in the UK in the 60s. They had numerous top 10 hits, though they didn't hit with a #1 until Blackberry Way. It was here in the US where they never took off. They had one disastrous tour around the time of Shazam's release and that was it. As far as the 70s, they had morphed into ELO with Wood and Jeff Lynne. After Wood left, the band under Lynne became huge worldwide. Wood success with Wizzard for a while as well with a few chart toppers, but were never near the level that ELO reached later. As far as a legacy, they have definitely been well regarded over the years (particularly in the collector scene), certainly more than Creation and even the Small Faces, who are basically an afterthought in the success of Rod Stewart and Ron Wood, just as Move is with ELO. The only thing really missing has been coverage by mainstream media, but that would be true for Creation as well.

At 3:42 Roy says they formed 9 months ago. Since they formed in December of '65, this would be around August or September 1966.

For some reason Woody was much given to that gesture at 1.25, where he pushes the tip of his nose up. I remember several photos of him doing it in pop papers of the time.

I remember 'Night of Fear' jockeying for positions in the charts in early '67 with the Jimi Hendrix Experience's Hey Joe...both iconic bands, that in my opinion changed the direction of popular music forever!
