2:44 I would also like to say that I love that this panel is so close to the real Archer III panel. The ADF readout in the lower left is right where the real one is, the custom combo oil temp/oil pressure/fuel pressure gauge is exactly like the real one and exactly where it sits in the panel. The fuel gauges are the same. Someone spent real time getting all this right. Out of curiosity, when you filmed this in your sim, had you been running the engine before? The oil temp is almost at the bottom of the green, which you wouldn't normally see on a cold start. Cool video, thanks again!

This is pretty cool; thanks for posting this. It's interesting to see what things are realistic and what things aren't. I fly a flying club PIper Archer III from time to time (and in fact I'm going to fly one this afternoon). The big chunky switches in the overhead are exactly the way they are in the plane. The fuel selector is very realistic (although I don't think most pilots of Piper airplanes actually ever turn their fuel selectors to "off"). The parking brake handle is fairly realistic, although the piper brake system is so complicated, it has five master cylinders, so it's kind of a mess. Our club advocates to not ever use the parking brakes, because that master cylinder if it leaks can drain all the hydraulic fluid out of the system. You just hold the toe brakes. Because the Archer III doesn't have a flashing tail (just the strobes on the wing tips) (apparently the sim got that part right) the procedure, as in this video, is to turn on the wingtip strobes as the starting warning. The one thing that's utterly unrealistic here is that you can see the strobes from the cockpit. In the real plane, from the pilot's seat, unless there's something next to the plane that the strobe light reflects from, it's utterly invisible. This is a very cool video, and it's really neat to see how realistic everything is; the cartoon strobe flashes amused me. Fly safe!

Thanks for the video! I'd never even heard of FSW, but there really are some impressive features in here, so it's a shame that they never truly got off the ground. This likely would have been great competition for the current sims. I'm still in awe of the physics on that planted landing!

Wanted to pick up FSW for this for a while just to collect it as a sim, but third party keys are expensive. As for default pipers, its often because they have a hard-on for having their aircraft showing up in sims without proper licencing. Also in part reason MSFS2020 versions from devs are just titled generic "PA-28" without mention of piper, and exclusion of branding in any textures. To be fair tough, FSW was essentially the ESP core repackaged for the millionth time, and some extra partnerships for aircraft & orbx FTX packaged as default. Still a fresh UI and forward thinking meant it was going to be a promising product.

When I see the scenery and clouds from back then, Laminar has zero excuse for the jagged line segment coastlines and roads, and clouds that don't look like what I see in the air. Instead they p*** away resources on boats and wakes, which do a fat lot of good flying over solid ground, flat, mountainous, or somewhere in between.

Does X-plane suffer from the same problem as MSFS2020 when you have trees on ultra it puts trees on the treshold or final of airports, I have reduced mine in MSFS2020 one step and it seems better while still having enough trees. As the final on St.Barts has no trees in that slope in reality, not even bushes. St.Barths and the Gustavia city was the last colony Sweden had, sold to the french way back. (At least as I remember it?)

I save all boxes until warranty is out. Your old CH stick and throttle is living in my closet as they are PS2 cennected and no software works for them which is a pity, but I have my old computers somewhere too so if it comes to it, these should still work with the "excellent graphics" of a Win98 setup! ;)
