Just got the diagnose on my stray yesterday … someone shot at him with a low caliber ammo , trying to kill him , but got his right front leg …. I came home from work and found him trying to get back to his area where he lays around …. My question is what is a normal timeline for him to heal once his leg is amputated ?

I've had my dog's right front leg amputated due to osteosarcoma. Two vets encouraged me to do this as the pain, as the disease progresses, can be unimaginable, plus the risk of fracture of the radius was very big, since the x ray showed massive osteolysis. Still, every time i look at my dog struggling to take another step, falling down over and over makes me think about the decision I had made. That is a very large and heavy dog. A very difficult time for both me and him. Hope he gets better.

I really miss my 2 piggies, i had 2 Juliana potbellies, Ahsoka and Ahnora. We had to move out of our house after a fire and i wasnt able to bring them to my new place so they went to a sanctuary that had 30 other potbellies, they are happy and i can visit them anytime but its not the same. At my humane society here in Mena there is a Tripod that I have been thinking about adopting and have been doing a lot of research on. Well she is missing her back right leg and when I returned to inquire about her story as I saw her on my last visit, I was told that she is also a special needs because she has no control over her bowels. That was no big deal as I'm use to belly bands and all from my last 3 males I had. But then they said I had to wash her bum also every morning. That's where I had to come to terms with not being able to take her as I have no way to bath her. I only have a deep jacuzzi bath tub unfortunately. A walk in shower would be great if I had one. She is 45 lbs and me by myself lifting her in and out would be too much. She is the staff favorite at the shelter I was told as she was tearing around chasing her toys in their office. Being just a year old she was very active. A beautiful loveable cattle dog, with beautiful golden brown eyes. She doesn't like to walk on that back good leg either she keeps it tucked under her and sort of flies around the floor at a very fast pace dragging that back leg. Well actually she keeps it tucked under her. They said they have a cart for her but missing that back leg she slips around in it, and she doesn't like it.

We are debating amputating our dog’s leg. Her previous owners accidentally ran over her, and she has needed three surgeries on her back leg already. She needs a fourth one, and we are trying to decide if we should try again or just remove the leg.

One of my dogs is three legged. I adopted her when she was 2 from street. She's now 7, almost 8. I forgot that she's three legged. This video reminded me.

our dog was recently hit by a car and we had to make the choice to amputate her front left leg. This is gonna be all new to us. Is there anything we should expect and what is the right care we can give her ?

I get it, its cute or whatever . Just plesse dont go to a dog park. Or atleast dont blame a dog if they try taking chunks outta him.

It’s just like having any other dog, really. I have had my 3-legged black lab for 7 years now. Easy peasy.

I just recently had my dog’s front left leg amputated about a month ago after getting ran over and he’s doing so much better and having a three legged dog is not Bad at all! It was either cut his whole leg off or put him down. And regardless how much it cost to fix him up he doesn’t deserve to go out like that. Dogs are family and love! So I support this video
