Have a very similar set up I tried an industrial strength magnet at the end of my pole to magnetically grab the winch hook, but it is a steel cable not a strap. By the time I get the Hook all the way to the bow eye it falls off the magnet. Your video gives me some new ideas to redeem myself.

Would it be ok to send you my email so we could discuss this set up? I am the person with the Sundancer 250. I like the boat. I can do almost all functions fairly easily single handed however loading on the trailer needs help. To the point I’m fairly frustrated and am thinking of downsizing for this single reason. I have decided to skip the marina this year and possibly upgrade my trailer to your braking system and this remote winching system. Our season here in MN doesn’t start until mid May. The boat is super easy to launch myself , dock and tow myself. I just haven’t figured out a smooth loading operation.

Have you ever considered doing a walk around/ review of your boat? There’s plenty videos out there but they are all from someone trying to sell the boat so obviously they aren’t going to say anything negative. Im thinking about doing one for my 230, figured an owners point of view will be less biased than a dealer/broker. Also down the line Id like to upgrade my boat and 280 sea Rays/ chaparrals are on my list.

This boat is obviously way over what an F150 is rated to tow. This looks like a shallow ramp. I’d never move my 28 footer or larger on a steep/wet ramp. Unless you live 2 miles from a ramp a boat of this size and the wide beam it’s time to move up to F250/HD2500 truck. Hopefully you also have full electric brakes and not just surge brakes which won’t help you at the ramp.

He says boat and trailer weigh 11,300 and his truck has the max tow package which I think is up to 13,200 depending on how it is equipped. I pull my 240 with a 2000 F350 7.3 but will be upgrading soon to a 150 with eco boost (oddly enough, same tourque).

I bought a really clean 250. That’s only about 5500-6000 pounds. I do keep it in a marina but if loading was that easy I may stop that practice. Marinas and just being in the water constantly are just so hard on boats and canvas. I like that my 250 fits in my pole barn too. My previous boat was a Carver 2667. Too tall for my barn.

I just bought a 89 sea ray 300 weekender 32ft and I have never owned a boat of this magnitude so I see you own one or very similar, do you know anything about what kind of trailer I should buy ??? I didn't want to keep it at a slip all the time I wanted to get it out and take it from location to location , any positive help or suggestions from anyone would be appreciated. Also what was the thing that you used to secure the clamp to the boat ??? It put the clip on so easy and smooth ?
@adnrlyn
@adnrlyn Жыл бұрын
Congratulations on the new boat, I know what you mean about magnitude I sometimes look at mine on the trailer in my driveway or where ever and get overwhelmed with its size out of the water. So when I bought this boat 5 years ago I also did not want it in the water,, premium when you resale $$$$. But we also wanted to travel with it.. when it come to a boat of this size it’s all about stopping it. Any full size truck will move it forward all, 11300lbs of it but it’s the stopping that is your main concern,,, my trailer is a triple axel rated for 15000 lbs I have a hydro star electric over hydraulic brake system on all three axels and believe me. When you give it full power on the brake controller in the truck, the boat trailer will stop everything not even using the truck brakes, that’s the stopping part of the equation… my truck believe it or not is a f150 with 3.5 v6 eco boost, that thing is a beast soooo much power, never have ever problem pulling… my truck also has. The Firestone air lift and ride in the rear,,, you have to keep the truck flat and level no squat to keep the steering from getting squirly, had the before and after and the before never will be an option again, I know the truck is rated not to have a air kit in the back but the feel going down the road is night and day, running downs smooth road you can forget it’s back there.. we have done lots of long hauls 600 miles plus with no problems or scares, just take it slow, drive like a trucker with lots of stopping distance, I know it sucks cause all people do is cut you off and kill you stopping distance, but it your truck your boat that’s gets f d up is the way I look at it. The the clamp I use I got off amazon it’s just a metal spring clamp, I drilled holes into and secured to the end of the boat pole, the spring clamp holds the boat hook perfectly on the angle that all you do is push and and wa la. It’s hooked I suppose I can take a picture of it for you if you want to send me your email… but that little device was made for my wife who normally is the person who connects it, while I sit in the truck, so that little gadget had to made with the utter most simplicity and had to work ever time, and took some trial and error , and harsh word of criticism for her to get it right.. lololol. Harsh words of F this piece sh *@t. This does not work fix it. So it took many tries to get it perfect but be more that happy to share to save you that grief. Well I know this ran long. Hit me up if you have any other questions… Rod

what we learn from this simple but excellent video: 1. slow & steady when backing - it's not a race! 2. remain in the tow vehicle to prevent inadvertent submersion of same! 3. unstrap and pre-load the boat and position dock lines within easy reach 4. back the trailer close enough to the dock so it can easily be boarded to ignite the engine 5. move the boat to the end of the dock so it's available for the next launch. what we didn't learn: 1. start the engine (and quickly extinguish it) while the boat's in the staging area, so there are no surprises once it's off the trailer and floating. 2. put your truck in 4WD so that your emergency brake acts on the front wheels as well as the rear (and consider using chocks behind the front wheels if you're alone)

@@MrStangdawg so true. I failed to mention that the ultimate anti-dunk device is a MICO lock system for the front brakes. I installed it on my 1991 Dodge W250 to bolster the absolutely useless emergency brake system Dodge used for that truck. Expensive, but a MICO lock will hold a military 6x6 on a 15% hill

That is true, he probably could have not gone quite so far. But, with these boats (I have a 30') and stupid bunks, the more water you have under the boat the easier it is to get all the way up and sitting right without putting to much strain on the boat and winch. It is a matter of finding that sweet spot. The rear trailer guides are also great if they're spaced right. The electric winch is a super bonus, I don't have that. These are definitely different to load that the ol' 18'er LOL. Nice job, thanks for the video.
