So one problem with this and this is purely my opinion; the problem is the organization of these mystery schools. They speak about initiation into higher knowledge and like to hold secrets and speak about "worthiness." What defines being worthy? How does the highest of the order know they are worthy? Do they decide themselves they are worthy? The first of the order must of had to do this or else they would have to claim they were a initiate of god. But in this case it is still a claim with zero backing to it. In my my view what i see is a cult which sucks people in that seek knowledge in order to corrupt and use them for nefarious reasons. Without a doubt freemasonary and islam are strongly connected as you see the shriners in the USA follow the sufi muslims practices; its not for show they really are muslims and to be specific they are technically Mohammedans as they have oaths specific toward Mohammad. My great grandfather was a shriner and to be a shriner you have to be a master mason of the blue lodge first and of high honorable standing in either the york rite or the scottishish rite. When i hear people speak of freemasonary they are highly uneducated. If i ever see a video with a caption that says "33 degree knowledge" i dont watch it because i allready know the video is not going to be informative. Theres 33 degrees in the scottish rite but there is not that many in the york rite. The highest honor in freemasonary is the 3rd degree master mason. All the other degrees you see in either rite are called supplementary degrees. The humiliation rituals you see in freemasonary are from my knowledge forms of witchcraft. Study witchcraft and you will see the same elements. This group, the rosacrucians (includes the jesuits of the catholic church), the thule society, islam, etc. are rooted in pure evil. The special powers described that you can aquire are not yours. That is a illusion that you have them. That power is coming from demons and they are who perform those powers. True wisdom in my view is through humility to god not seeking power or knowledge. The reason the catholic church did alot of evil in the past was because of the merovingians (knights templar) that worshiped bamphomet (bastardization of mahomet in islam) and the jesuit order that were gnostic in origin. Islam is in fact gnostic and the rosacrucians got their alchemical knowledge from the sufi muslims like jabir ibn hayyan who wrote summa perfectionis. So as you see pagans and islamic influenced groups infultrated the largest church of christianity which is my point of why i say islam is evil along with the heart of freemasonary. This does not go to say all freemasons or all muslims are evil but the organizations that they follow are. In islam you can lie under 3 different circumstances but if what they preach is true why must you ever lie? That to me points to it being all a lie. If you really look at islam its more of legal system than a religion. I see laws not values.

It seems to me that you can project Sufism and Sufi ideas onto all kinds of great and noble religious and spiritual movements and find a lot of congruence or common ground between them. That does not necessarily make Saint Francis a Sufi, however. Walk into any metaphysical bookstore and you can find books pointing out the common threads that link Jesus and the Buddha, or Mohammed, or whoever may strike your fancy.

I was raised in an Italian Catholic family. I took my confirmation name as Francesco in honor of St. Francis. I was always drawn to him for some reason. Many years later I would have a number of intellectual and spiritual experiences that would lead me closer to God. The nearer I drew the closer I came to Islam and the message of Gods Oneness over creation. I respect Francis for his earnestness and humility.

This is way out there, I like it. You mention the Kubrawiyya, and recent studies suggest it was much influenced by Ilkhanid Buddhism, so there's that. But I'm not convinced he would have needed to take a journey to the east in order to feel inspired to write poetry about the sun.

European monastic tradition predates Islam itself let alone the Sufi tradition. it comes from the early Christian practice of desert hermitage.
