She is a lady. Why are you calling her Rocky?
@LauShenGungFu
@LauShenGungFu 19 күн бұрын
@christinechrisdame_0761 Rocky was a nicknamed given by a local resident. Best I could find is that the name "Rocky" has to do with this person seeing her constantly in a rocky location. From what I've seen, names have less to do with gender as other representations. If you Google "how Hawaiian Monk Seals are named", you'll see some of the naming history.

The extra step up after the cross hands, parallel punch is from Dong/Tung family style. The rest of the form has some slight variations, but I would incorporate them into my daily long form. Good video.

Finally, I recognize what I learned from Mr. Lee(that's what we called him). I started when he was teaching in Manoa on Kamehameha Ave. in someone's lanai and stayed with him till Chaplin Ln. in downtown, Honolulu.(Maybe 4 locations, later) Your moves are exactly what we learned. Nice to remember At 74, that's about all I remember. Doing the horse(Ma) from 5 to 10 minutes was a KILLER. I finally got to 20 minutes, on my own. Fut Ga and Mr. Lee were the perfect first style and instructor that gave me my basics. I moved on after a couple of years because Mr. Lee was not into sparring, which I felt was very necessary to gain the confidence and experience of footwork, slipping, bobbing, weaving, being hit, striking, strategy & mindset. The journey was arduous, took many years, and many lumps. But, I learned a lot about myself.

Hi Marie, appreciate the feedback. I really can't disagree with you about the camera movement. I was experimenting with an Auto Tracking Pivo camera at the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic, trying to figure out offering online classes. I'll have to consider shooting the Form again with a fixed camera. It's always a good exercise to see how I've changed...or not 🙂. I do sahave the form recorded indoors but sadly with the same Pivo camera, recorded about the same time. Nothing beats a live camera operator or just sticking to a fixed camera angle. take care, Randy

Well done. Good "talk through" the set. Maybe start a Members side channel and provide multiple position footage of each posture. Break down each posture and the transition to the next posture. Definitely be worth the price of membership. Just a thought.

Thank you! I started this channel simply to share with my students during the pandemic but it's grown a little more than I expected. I'll look into your suggestions. I have the interest to share more, just not sure I have the energy and time to do it. I am always interested in suggestions to create material so I may look into breaking down the movements/postures for the standing form.

what can block the step jab coming in at an angle?
@LauShenGungFu
@LauShenGungFu 10 ай бұрын
Hi Vincent, the open hand (Cum Sau) and Fist (Wang Chung Chai) that I demonstrate in this video can be nice choices. We tend to combine it with stepping up at an angle. The nature of the jabs is that they are quickly snapped out and back so whether straighter or at an angle, the basic method would be the same. You want to practice at different angles as well as the different foot work in the video..standing, stepping up, stepping back. Part of the skill is the turn of the body with the block. In addition to these 2 blocks, the 7 block video also has a short cutting block (Dong Sau). Another nice block that we have is an open hand block called "Mor Pun Jeong" which when applied more internally, rides the jab from the outside while you slide into the attacker. While the video concentrates on developing these blocks, the application is of course more upright and shorter. There's a 2 hand block that we practice that helps to learn to keep block closer as opposed to swinging the arms and hands to far out of range, slowing down the contact time. If you're interested, send me a video demonstrating the attacking jab you're thinking of and I can get someone to help me demonstrate how I might approach it. There's never one best answer. There's also at least 2 other easy fists that are delivered as a jab that are surprisingly easy and can cause immediate pain to the attacker's hand, either in between the knuckles on the back of the hand. They're really nice techniques for some who is continuously jabbing at you. You can find my email in the description. Randy

@@LauShenGungFu Hey Sifu Randy, I don't know if you remember me but I was one of your students at Gee Yung in the mid to late 90s. You and Keoki were the main teachers for the beginner and intermediate classes when I attended. It was awesome to see the video and it was a flashback of all the blocks and fundamentals I learned their. I've done a lot more boxing the last couple decades, even some Jiu jitsu but I always take a lot of the stances and pung ma training which I feel like really improved my power. Hope all is well🤙🤙

Aloha. I'm guessing you want the Chinese Character for "Fist" as used in Chinese Boxing. "Kuen" can also be replaced with "Quan" or "Chuan", "Kuen" being Cantonese. This link shows the Chinese Character: www.chinese-word.com/data/1873.html
