dude am South African and i cant even explain my frustration with how we shoot dance scenes in this country, they dont show the choreography, its js vibes, they will show u the coolest part for like 2 seconds and the most uncreative parts take up 90% of the music video, Amapiano alone would be way way more fun if they shot good videos, its like they dont understand that the video is an advertisement for not just the music but the artist too, this is why in South Africa people have huge hits but no oone knows how the artist looks like, its like they dont respect the art they are putting out, makes me sad.

"Sony's willingness to innovate". Meanwhile they just released the A1 II, which is barely considered as an upgrade to the A1, with video still limited to 8K/30 (both Nikon's top models Z8/Z9 and Canon R5 II can do 8K/60) and an autofocusing system still behind (although closer) to a far cheaper camera like the R5 II..
@yusei1512 ай бұрын
Omg at this point we need to stop arguing with autofocus cause for every jared blowing Canon's autofocus you have a peta pixel clearly stating Sony has better autofocus. It's pretty much user error at this point. Higher frame rates is not innovation. Tell me who is using 8k60. Most people bringing up specs never really use these cameras highest bitrates.
@amanandalensbyanse2 ай бұрын
This is so true. No one is shooting at those crazy frame rates. I have a lot friends who pretty much even shoot 60fps on 1080 and you wouldn't even make a difference

@vasiliss35972 ай бұрын

It seems like an FX cinema camera is in the not too distant future, but this GFX cine cam is not made for everyone. it’s basically intended to be an IMAX replacement for the DPs that asked Fuji for it, because those budgets are larger and more reliable than Indies. Most likely they want to generate some profit before getting into the Indie filmmaking scene. Fujifilm almost certainly designed and built both X and GFX mount cinema cameras at the same time and decided to release the more expensive model first. I believe the GFX has had a FF crop mode from the 50S model forward and there are plenty of GFX adapters, particularly for PL mount so that’s all most productions need.

Let the number of Grammy nominations decide. Y'all know who runs Africa. Is it Ballon D'or nominations? Is it selling out stadiums outside Africa? The most educated black community in the United States? Is it the movie industry? Nigerians forced Grammy to give Africans a category, Nigerians forced Billboard to create a chart for Africans. I can go on and on. We are not competing with our African brothers and sisters. We know who are.

I don't think Nigerian music videos are better than South African visuals, per se. Yes, there are great quality music videos that have come from Nigeria, but if you'd like references for videos that look like the one you've dissected, I can share. Bongeziwe Mabandla's video for the song "Soze", which was directed by Zee Ntuli Ami Faku's "Imali" directed by Lindo Langa AKA's "Dreamwork" directed by Adriaan Louw Major Lazer's "Particular" directed by Adriaan Louw Mayorkun's "Lose Control" directed by Nate Thomas. Mnqobi Yazo's "Zamalek" directed by Luthando Sigubudu Sjava's "Typhoon" directed by Luthando Sigubudu. The list is endless, I can go on. Come on, brother, please do your research.

the truth here is that you have to look for a bad music videos by a nigerian. which is the opposite of the south african industry
@iccentrikfilms3 ай бұрын
Have you heard of TG Omori & Clearance Peters? Those Nigerian directors produce magic. Most of my low budget videos are better than some S.A high budget video. If we Nigerians had such technology, equipments, lovely locations, topography etc you’ll be shocked at what we will put out.
@andilentuli13093 ай бұрын
@iccentrikfilms I'll be sure to check them out, bro. Thanks for the recommendation. But you should also see the guys that I've listed in the comments above, they also possess the ability to produce amazing work with minimal budgets. And their work speaks for itself.
@andilentuli13093 ай бұрын
And as I've mentioned, if you don't extensively follow the music that gets made here, you won't know of a lot of the directors that I've listed either. There are a lot of upcoming directors who are making incredible work that those who've "made it" aren't. So, bare that in mind.

You have a point. But I think we've got video directors who have been trying to change that since then. We've got directors like Nate Thomas, Adriaan Louw, Alison Swank etc. who are advocates of visual excellence. To name a few of their works, please check out: Blxckie's "South" video for Sprite Limelight. The late Riky Rick's "I Can't Believe It" The late AKA's "Lemons (Lemonade) Nasty C's "Eazy". Blxckie's "Ronda" Blxckie's "GMG Freestyle".
@andilentuli13093 ай бұрын
Furthermore, we've got other videos like Nasty C's "Eazy", Kwesta's "Spirit", even Sjava's music videos like "Isoka", "Umcebo", "Amakhehla" which were all directed by Luthando Sigubudu. We've got great video directors here, it's just a matter of finding their work.

I will definitely have a look at your suggestion but the overall nature of South African music video doesn't feel very well crafted. I am not saying that there is no good ones out there but there is more bad ones than good ones. When I earmarked SETE by KO particularly, this was supposed to be the best music videos for the biggest SA song of that time. here is another example of a big song that fell short in its music video Iplan by Thukzin. That music video feels underprepared and just stitched together. Could be a budget issue but what do I know. it is just a critic in the sense that many big songs in SA fall short in term of music video.

South Africans are complacent when it comes to cinematic excellence. This problem is also common in our Films and TV shows. I always get distracted by technical and creative direction issues when I am watching local films and TV Shows. And I know that they have world-class equipment and software, but some of the creative decisions make no sense to me. Check out Loki's amaphanta music video, it was shot with an iPhone and it rivals a lot of South African videos because it was graded by people who know what they are doing.
