So what do lockers even do exactly? I know they are used for offraod

They lock the wheels to move in sync with each other on each axle. Has the same effect as welding a differential for drifting. Instead of the differential being open and only powering one wheel on the axle when the tires start to slip, it locks the rotation of them together.
