vballvoodoo I believe what you're referencing is the lack of evidence of prevention for the activity that's about to be performed (i.e., stretching before an activity doesn't prevent injury during THAT activity, in THAT session). Of course, that could be tied to a difficulty in measuring that. After all, how many competitive athletes (who are likely to be studied) DON'T stretch before they exercise? And yet injuries still occur. So does that mean that the stretching had no effect? But more importantly, that's not the same as saying that stretching daily does not prevent injury months down the road. Daily stretching makes the muscles more flexible before they succumb to being strained, so given the same force upon them, it only makes sense that their ability to move a greater degree without stress will equate to less injuries. Also, recognize that several of these exercises are strengthening exercises, and while I can't cite studies for you, I've no doubt that strong muscles have a negative correlation with injury prevention. Re: the stretching, though, it's particularly important to stretch after an activity, while the muscles are warm and one can get a better stretch. It will make the body more flexible AND stronger in the long run. Here are some studies specific to the PEP program: 1. Gilchrist J, Mandelbaum BR, Melancon H, Ryan GW, Silvers HJ, Giffen LY, et. al. A randomized controlled trial to prevent noncontact anterior cruciate ligament injury in female collegiate soccer players. Am J Sports Med 2008;36:1476-83. 2. Mandelbaum BR, Silvers HJ, et al. Effectiveness of a neuromuscular and proprioceptive training program in preventing anterior cruciate ligament injuries in female athletes. Am J Sports Med. 2005;33:1003-10.

Every study I've come across has indicated no correlation between stretching and injury prevention. Did you guys find something conclusive stating otherwise? I dont meanto be contradictory, I'm just always looking for more information on the subject. If there is research that concludes static stretching exercises has an affect on preventing injuries, I'd love to read it and share it.
