Can’t you pave it thicker instead of double working?

So many people, including governments, look upon asphalt as a one time investment, never needing any upkeep or repair.

How long should I wait after a newly paved driveway before backfilling with topsoil?

The town paved my road. The road is now 3-6” higher than my yard (and it slopes downhill from the road). Is it my responsibility to lay out the cost to have dirt brought in? I can’t afford it and it would take a lot of dirt to make it mowable like it was before. I used to have my lawnmower wheels on the road and on grass (they were level with each other). Now if I do that, I’m going to break the lawnmower. They paved yesterday and didn’t come back today. Am I to assume they are finished and left me with this problem?

Teach that lute operator to run that outer screw for your paver operator and you won't need to rake it. You can run that outer screw to raise and lower the tow point and your paver operator needs to run inner screw in tandem with the outer screw man. You can run it just right that it will pinch in perfect. Keep your joints hot with trucks lined up and you can achieve this very easily. Much less work and your mat will come out like a sheet of glass. Should never have to rake loose materials back on to your mat. Let the machine do its job and your rakers won't feel like they need bigger pay for fixing what the machine should of accomplished as the mat achieves 80 percent of your compaction. Loose mix on top of this would cause segregation on top of your Mat. Key is not over working your crew while your just running a paver aimlessly barking orders all while you could of just ran a tighter ship and not sink the ship. Teamwork makes the dream work. Now you should have a grade crew out working while you are paving.

Never rake the joint and spread it over the smooth surface laid by the screed. The screed is like an iron that makes a smooth surface. If the height of the second pass is correct, the roller will compress it even with the first pass and seal the joint.

Ohio here. Have a driveway that was placed where there is a slope on one side, somewhat steep. The asphalt was piled up 4" above the soil surface in locations, with a slope away from the driveway... I have been pondering what to do for quite some time, but after watching your video I will be going the soil route. Of course I'm concerned that the grass won't grow fast enough and heavy rain will come or something but how far out should the dirt be backfilled? Thanks.
