Finally I’ve found a video on this!!! I’m about to do a 6.0 swap in my 79 Deville phaeton so I’m trying to get all my parts together first. I have a couple questions but mainly need to know what headers you went with for this swap. Thanks

I was trying to keep it quiet, so I didn't use headers. I used factory exhaust manifolds, left was from a f-body and right was the LQ9.

I been hunting this video down. Wish I could have seen the transformation of the swap. Good work.

What u do for harness? I got a 79 I wanted to do a 94 lt1 swap but I’m liking the lq9 setup better

I used the factory harness that came with the LQ9/4L65e. I removed everything I wasn't going to use like EGR, EVAP, downstream O2s. I took the harness completely apart to reroute everything and changed the length of some of the runs to get a perfect fit. I took a little time, but I think it was worth it

Did you have to move your motor mounts before dropping
@michael14420
@michael14420 4 жыл бұрын
Yes... I bolted the motor mounts to the motor and placed the engine and transmission in the car. I then marked the frame where the mounts were sitting. I then removed motor and transmission and drilled new holes. Dirtydingo did a write up on how I did it and featured my car check it out www.dirtydingo.com/shop/mobile_pages.php?pID=60&CDpath=4_9

Michael B the lq9 bolts to an th400 right? Was talking to someone today and said I’ll have to replace drive shaft rear end?
@michael14420

@@datboikevy4389 I used a 4L65e and put the TH400 on the shelf, however I do believe the TH400 as well as the TH350 will bolt to 3 gen small block Chevy (LS block". I'm not sure about what flywheel/tourque converter you'll need to use. I've also heard that the crankshaft needs a spacer to work. As far as the driveshaft, if you go with a TH400 and you don't change where it sits in the car, then I believe you could use the factory driveshaft. Keep in mind that if you do move the transmission then the gear select linkage will also need some attention. That's why I'd suggest leaving the transmission where it is. Bolt engine and transmission together and see how the engine clears everything in the engine bay and the crossmember. With the 4L65e I had to have a driveshaft built, the factory was way too long. I believe the factory rears in these Cadillacs rears are strong enough. However in my swap I think I need to bump up the ratio. Mostly due to the way the 4L65e is geared. Right now I have the factory rear with 2.28. I think with a turbo 400 you would be okay with the ratio you have.

Did you build it?
@michael14420
@michael14420 6 жыл бұрын
jeff lindsey I did what is commonly referred to as an LS swap. I've owned the car for about 4 years but I've become spoiled by fuel injection and the great stock power from these 3rd Gen SBC(LS motors). The motor (LQ9) in this car right now was slated for my 70 Camaro, but as it turns out the motor I got for this car has issues so it's on loan for now. Did all the work myself with the exception of the driveshaft. Getting the body back together now
