Had this played at my husband's funeral two years ago as he was taken into the crematorium. He was taken far too soon; a young man of only 43. He adored Mansun and I'm so sad to say I didn't appreciate them enough while he was alive, despite him talking about them so much. He was a great musician and was so inspired by them. Even made his own concept album called Polly and the Worm, inspired by Dark Mavis and the vicar. I miss him so much. He and my son are credited singing in the chorus on one of Paul Draper's solo albums. Rest in peace beloved man. 💔

I was looking for a song today, hummed part of the riff into youtube's microphone search feature, and this song came up. Instant fan, I love the vocal styles and different sections and transitions in this song. It's also not the song I was looking for... almost certainly better!

Britpop was a fantastic time to be a young teenager growing up that whole 90s thing, I sure miss it 🇬🇧 👍

I always thought these guys were an anomaly to the brit pop era. And imo far more interesting than 95% of what brit pop had to offer.

This song is about a man objectifying and pedistalizing a woman and then victimizing himself when she dumps him. He tries to manipulate her into his frame to reconcile the relationship and when she doesn't fall for it and sees him for the nobody he is his ego is hurt and he feels sorry for himself. It's a good song. The lyrics are a good insight into how self proclaimed 'nice guys' think.

When I was at uni back in '97, these guys were meant to be playing at our end of year festival, but they dropped out and we got the Dust Junkies instead. never mind.

Regarding stalking his ex? The charges were dropped, I believe. I know Dominic Chad has told him not to contact him or his family. Dominic has a profile on LinkedIn - he’s left the music business, he’s some kind of physio now.
@siamesegiant2 ай бұрын
@@kdp8133 Yeah Chad dropped a bunch of details of Draper showing up at his house repeatedly and engaging in stalker type behaviour in a post of Facebook which he has since deleted. I think he just doesn't want the hassle. A bunch of other accusations came out about Draper but nothing went to court so all must be taken with a pinch of salt, but he sounds like a pretty unpleasant guy all round.

Dear Mavis I'm compelled to write this letter In the hope that you may soon be getting better I've a feeling you should go and see a doctor If you haven't then you know you really oughta I was worried so I went to see the vicar But before I could confess he first confessed to be a stripper Dear Mavis it was very strange to see him So I thought I'd write and ask you your opinion Should I grass on him, report him to the Cardinal? Or whether I should egg him on to turn professional? If I dob on him they'll call him plastic scouser But the only thing the Stripper Vicar wears is plastic trousers Mavis' opinion is all we really seek Mavis' opinion is all we Should we lie while he's still alive? Should we lie while he's still alive? 'Cos when the vicar strips he gets away with it Dear Mavis thought I'd follow up my letter Drop a line about the fate of our poor vicar Very tragically his time on Earth is ended Found him gagged and bound in stockings and suspenders Dear Mavis if you tell us what your thoughts are And I hope that they're not biased 'cos you are the vicar's daughter Mavis's opinion, all we really seek Mavis's opinion, all we, should we... Should we lie now that he has died? Should we lie now that he has died? 'Cos when the vicar strips he gets away with it And we know him as our vicar And by night a part-time stripper And the vicar got suspended In his stockings and suspenders And he's making wine from water While he dresses like his daughter And we know that he's a rip off 'Cos we've seen him with his kit off Should we lie now that he has died? Should we lie now that he has died? 'Cos when the vicar strips he gets away with it
