Thomas, may I please post this here. I am desperately seeking a man planning on moving to SPAIN and possibly just got into Spanish, or equivalent. I´m a great teacher of Spanish of Spain and realized late that native speakers are necessary BUT, they have the exact opposite goal of me. I never want to speak English again, they only want to speak English. Problem. Side note, I´m a 60 year old who once looked very, very much like you! IF you really want to GROW your channel massively, quickly, not merely the advertisement route but, post an email address! People want to interact even if it's just one way.

ALL emotion! In fact, if you don´t experience frustration then, you don´t care enough to ever hope to be fluent. So, frustration is a form a anger, use it. I hate how long this is taking! I want to break something into pieces! I see red right now. Express these feelings fully (alone) in your target language! Don´t WASTE emotional power when it can be used to memorize vocabulary and phrases! You´ll need them all. IF YOU DON´T you´ll find yourself at a train station in Germany trying to be nice and when faced with smartalec "I couldn´t care less" German agents, you won´t be able to speak! You have to learn to speak in all emotions. Let´s say you`re stoic. Then master logical relationships instead.

I´ve had the luxury of investing well and since May 1st 2021 have been using AI and my own method to master Iberian Spanish to its deepest level. I kinda sorta believed you in the first 25 seconds and then, I saw your FACE when you spoke Russian. Now, something which took me 3.5 years to understand in myself, I saw it in your face. When a person "switches" into the mind of a foreign language, a language which is no longer foreign to them, their face changes for that language. Men still figuring this out spurred me on by asking, "Say something in Spanish" and then saying, "Yeah. I thought so. Your voice changes.". They were just dumb apes and didn´t really understand what they were hearing any better than I did but now, I get it. My voice in Iberian Spanish is NOT my voice in English! That is TRUE fluency!! I hear men speaking Spanish who claim 20 years and, nope! Still thinking in English and speaking like a tic tocker. I started French and after a week stopped, because it's easy than Spanish and I can wait. It´s complicated but the point is, I realize I can learn French MUCH faster than Spanish because of the SOUNDS. Key. DUDE! I´m subscribing! I knew you existed somewhere on Earth, an adult, natural man, who is SERIOUS and gives real advice! Thank God! It would be Russian, though. Practical and something I have no interest in. I guess that's good.

To your 1st question: by doing some research and paying attention to what is happening in the world. You'll naturally discover more as you get further along, but there's plenty you can research and consider to start. To your 2nd question: that's one of the reasons behind "step 3" that I cover in the video.

repost part 3 If your dream location is Springfield, Mo, USA, what does that have to do with your target language if you are a native English speaker? Not everyone who speaks Russian wants to live there. And if you want to really profit from working with Kazaks, learn their language, not Russian. This is similar to wanting to experience real Native American culture, but only in English.
@aSnailCyclopsNamedSteve3 күн бұрын
repost part 2 Colloquial language is different from technical language and from literary language. So, just because you can speak to people on the street does not mean that you can do anything more with the language, and vice versa. People rarely speak using semicolons.

Thank you for posting so many comments. I address your first points above. I'm not sure why you're fixated on talking vs. not talking in the language, as there is a myriad of professional opportunities in all modalities. Being productive and using the language in either written or spoken forms are all valid.
@aSnailCyclopsNamedSteve3 күн бұрын
@@thomasgalgani Just one comment many times, i.e., in many pieces, most of which have apparently disappeared for no apparent reason. So, of course, one piece out of context makes no sense. As to talking. One of the mistakes teachers make is to make language learning uncomfortable and unpleasant. One of those ways is by pushing students to speak before they are ready to do so. Talking requires recall, which is the stage after immediate recognition. So, that means the student has to drill endlessly to reach that level, which is a boring way to learn a language. If you cannot recognise words immediately, then you can say anything you like, but you likely will not understand any of the responses. End of dialogue. Single word questions and answers are communication, but not really fluency. And no one is going to pay you money for such proficiency. Since YT apparently does not want a fuller answer, colour me gone.

Hello, this is Vincenzo and I am deaf because of my birth. I love European languages as a passion. I have a big problem with choosing one of them. I have a few knowledge of all European languages and I was so curious what they like. I was studying Czech for less than a week, then change to Slovak for less than a week, then change to German for less than one week, then changes the European languages over and over. I have not study one of them fully. I feel unhappy because I dont know which one I am trying to focus and learn one of them. I have a goal, my dream is about I would like to know Romance languages, Germanic and Slavic languages. I found Slavic languages are very difficult. I am studying Czech but now I have a feeling to change other language. that is my problem! I am trying to stick to one language at a time until I will know fluently. Now I am thinking about one of Romance languages. Spanish or Romanian or Portuguese or French..... I wish to learn all of them at the same time. I know it is impossible to learn them all at the same time. I wish to learn Germanic languages such as Swedish, Dutch, Norwegian or German. I wish to learn Slavic languages, such as Czech, Slovak, Croatian or Polish. I studied Polish last week and I gave it up because of its difficulty. Right NOW, I dont know which I want to learn one at a time. Maybe I am thinking to learn one of Romance language... Portuguese or Romanian or Spanish???? It is very very difficult for me to make a decision to choose one of them. I have very strong passion of the languages since I was younger. I dont know what I can do.. Do you have any idea about my situation? My mother language is English because I was born in Australia. Thank you for reading my interesting story. I hope to hear your helpful advice. Thank you!
@thomasgalgani3 күн бұрын
Hi Vincenzo, thank you for commenting and sharing some of your story. It's hard to say without knowing more about your situation, but I would just commit to the language that you enjoy reading and writing the most. Spanish would likely open up a wider range of opportunities, but again, it depends on where you'll be and what you'd like to do. It's definitely possible to learn multiple languages at once, but if you're worried about difficulty, just commit to one for about a year. It is difficult, but you can do it. Keep up the hard work!

Note. This is 'boost your fluency' not 'become fluent'. If you don't have a decent vocabulary level, these are not really an option. For example, if you know only a few hundred words, you are unlikely to write many coherent text messages. So don't feel bad if can't do these things yet.
@thomasgalgani3 күн бұрын
I agree that you shouldn't get discouraged if some of these tips are a little difficult to start, but I don't believe that knowing "only" a few hundred words is insufficient to start sending coherent enough texts or voice messages. "Let's get coffee." "At the usual cafe." "I watched that movie last night, it's good." ...etc.; a beginner can start if he or she keeps it simple. Also, you become fluent by boosting fluency one day at a time, and it can often happen much faster than people think, if they don't wait until they "know enough" to start actually using and activating the language in daily life.
@aSnailCyclopsNamedSteve3 күн бұрын
@@thomasgalgani Sure, you can send smile emojis and 'Coffee 15 min. Lou's?' easily enough, but the answer you get might not be so understandable. And if that is all you are doing, is that fluency? It sounds more like polite tourism. But what I am critical of is shaming students into to thinking they are weak because they are not speaking. Holding a conversation requires thousands of words, not hundreds. And an honest student feels that sharply. Focus first in very fast recognition, not the next step, recall. Students should feel good about themselves and their efforts.

As a native English speaker very late in life taking on a foreign language, the reality check I had was realizing how much of my speech is "corrupted" by idioms. I use the word corrupted because it makes an English-only communication, instead of something more international. "You get me? Are you down with the bricks I´m laying". That sort of thing. Cleaning up or adding to our own first, is a disappointing must-step for me.

I love me some Backstreet Boys! The physicalities tip was huge for me...I had the advantage of living in another country while learning but I spent so much time around Argentinians that I felt a little uncomfortable around Americans and Europeans at first. My Spanish wasn't great but all of my mannerisms, jokes and the way I carried myself all changed. I think it's also very important to think simple..If you only know 3 words use those 3 words like you mean it, don't try to translate things word for word from English.
@thomasgalgani5 күн бұрын
awesome to hear! That’s cool and quite interesting how your mannerisms changed - it’s amazing how much language goes beyond the words themselves. Also, I agree on the importance of not literally translating everything from your native language into the target language, really good points!
