Thank you for the great explanation! I’ve been trying to figure out how the companion pass works 😅 Is it too late to sign up now? Or should I just wait for October next year?
@TheTravellingLuis
@TheTravellingLuis 9 сағат бұрын
I’m glad this helps! I think it depends on when your next trips would be. If you have one coming up in more than 3 months from now, I don’t think it’s too late. And also if you do have multiple flights you plan to take in 2025. For me, since I’m not planning to travel domestically as much this year, I’m waiting until Oct 2025 to work on the companion pass again.

Great video. There are many places that are key tourists spots but end up being a bit disappointing. I would add to your list a capsule hotel, not much fun.... I am considering going to Ginzan Onsen on my next trip but I feel that maybe overcrowded also...

The title is so general (clickbait worthy) , but sharing is more towards only to your likings. Do not skip Arashiyama just because you're not a morning person. there is so much more than the bamboo forest. You can try the boat ride, the Sagano train ride and simply the hike is worthwhile. You can see man-made attraction elsewhere, but honestly this nature attraction for most places in Japan is something cannot be missed when you got the chance.
@TheTravellingLuis

Yup, you're right! These are the attractions toward my liking. People have different interests and Japan offers so many different things - too many maybe! It's so hard to pick which ones to see and do, especially if it's their first time visiting Japan.

So glad to find you! I'm still learning! We have a companion pass from the SW Rapid Rewards Chase card. I can have a companion thru Feb 2025. I was hopeful to earn enough points to re-quality but will not. I have 94,500, and need 135,000. Ugh! 1) Can I apply for a SW Business card to earn a new companion for for March 25 forward? 2) How should I time that to earn it in time for March 2025?
@TheTravellingLuis
@TheTravellingLuis Ай бұрын
Hi Lisa! Thanks for watching and I'm glad we found each other! It sounds like the 94,500 points you have now is from opening one Chase card that also grant you the CP (companion pass) only through Feb 2025. Tbh I've never done it that route before, but here are my thoughts: 1) If you have 94,500 on your SW account and all you need is 40,500 to make it to the 135,000 threshold, I would assume you can open another SW credit card (business or personal, depending on which one you have already), meet the minimum spend and get the CP for 2025 and 2026. BUT please verify with other outlets because I've never done the promo CP that you have. I would look into The Points Guy or Travel Mom Squad. I think the Travel Mom Squad has a Facebook group and you can ask the community there. 2) If the above works out, and you can just open another credit card and earn the bonus points to meet the 135,000 threshold... the timing is kind of depends on your credit card statement closing date. Do you have trips planned in Mar 2025? If not, I would just time it with your next trip after your current CP expires. I would maybe plan to meet the minimum spend in Mar or even Apr 2025. I'm not sure if the CP qualification can overlap and again it depends on when your credit card statement closes and when the points will hit your SW account. Hope this makes sense. Let me know if you have more questions :)

Very surprised you didnt include the golden pavilion in kyoto. Big cities arent for me, been to tokyo and osaka once which was enough. No trip to japan should miss Hiroshima and Miyajima. We also spend a few days atound Hakone, kyoto, nara, kurashiki. The shinkansen is so good, recommend buying a JR pass and base yoursrlf several nights in a few locations. Youlll save a lot of time not having to find and check in and out of hotels.

Hi 👋🏻 Thanks for watching and subscribing! Unfortunately - no, I don't do tours. I'm not based in Japan and my Japan videos were based on my very first trip in 2023. Tbh, getting around Japan is pretty easy. Google Maps navigation is pretty accurate. I had a pretty strict itinerary but a lot of people like to just walk around and get lost - then they discover something unusual. Have a great trip!

Agree about Yokohama. An easy skip. Some Ichiran are 24 hrs tried eating one at breakfast. I know, I know ramen for breakfast? But if you don’t want to line up then its your best bet. Dinner would always be crowded as always in Japan. So I tend to eat on popular restos for lunch and maybe go to simple ones for dinner.

I'm discovering from the comments here that Yokohama might worth a day or two on my next trip to Japan :) I will never oppose to ramen for breakfast because I love noodle. The only problem for me is getting up early enough to call my first meal breakfast LOL.

I was approved for my SW personal card on Oct 2 - does that mean I must make my last spend Jan 1 to get the bonus? Please let me know because this is confusing.
@TheTravellingLuis
@TheTravellingLuis 3 ай бұрын
Yes, you have to meet the minimum spend within the first 3 months of opening your card to get the sign up bonus points. Are you opening a business card in a month to go for the companion pass?
@LipplyRealEstate
@LipplyRealEstate 3 ай бұрын
@@TheTravellingLuis yes I just realized though that I took out the personal card too early and the timing is tricky. What is the deal with the "closing date" of the statement? If my closing date is the 27th - does that mean I can (should) make the minimum spend AFTER the Dec 27 but before Jan 1 to get the 2 year CP?
@TheTravellingLuis
@TheTravellingLuis 3 ай бұрын
did you apply for a business card? you need 135,000 points to get the 2-year CP. the personal credit card will only give you 85,000 sign up bonus points - you need 50,000 more points.
@TheTravellingLuis
@TheTravellingLuis 2 ай бұрын
I would just make sure that I hit the 2nd minimum spend in January. so open the 2nd card in November or December even, and hit the 2nd card minimum spend in January. it's more about the points accumulated from both cards that should hit in January 2025 to get the CP. hope that makes sense.

The current Osaka Castle is a concrete reconstruction based on the Edo Period design of the main tower. It has actually been destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries. The inside is now a museum, complete with elevators and air conditioning. I honestly still think it's worthwhile to visit, though. They did a beautiful job with the reconstruction and it's very educational. The castle grounds are gorgeous, especially during cherry blossom season.
