Hello there, I detest traction tyres and after much experimenting i have removed all of them from my locos (steam and diesel) and added the weights you are using to the tenders in particular and the locos if required. Yes they run and pull much better without those rubber objects, proving that weight improves traction much better. Best regards and i love your layout, Alan (Dorset steamer)
@danstewstation78395 жыл бұрын
Thank you Alan, that's great to know moving ahead that weight works better than tyres. Have to agree I'm not a fan of them either and added then it of necessity over desire. Once I've added the weights over the fleet I'll try removing the tyres and see how it goes. Thanks for the feedback 🙂

Hi, great update looks like you have been busy building you town scene I am building low relief kits myself at the moment , so I am really interested in how you are doing tour pavements I thought I heard you say with matchsticks I am same opinion I don't want to uses the Metcalfe card ones because I have see them on other layouts and they all start coming up so if you don't mind I would like to know your method. Your layout is really starting to take shape and is looking good. Regards George...
@danstewstation78396 жыл бұрын
Hi George, thank you for your message. Apologies for skimming over that in the video, I thought I had mentioned it previously but realise I haven't. Yeah I can see what you mean, I've just never been keen on the look of their pavements and the way they stick down I'm filming the next update currently and have added an explanation in there, but what I've done is use matchsticks to create a border for where I want the pavements and then use polyfiller to fill up to the height of the matchsticks. Usually after it is dry you would remove the matchsticks but I'm leaving them in to simulate curbs. You can then use a thinner layer of polyfiller for the road texture. Hope this helped, all the best. Kelvin

I'm the one who made the original 'babble' comment. I'm 83 and paraplegic following three strokes. I went through a bad mental health patch 40 yeats ago and appreciate what you;'re going through. After years in therapy I realised that the only person who can help you is yourself. As a competitive aeromodeller my final cure was to go back to winning contests. Nowadays I find that I spend all my time planning how I am going to do things and very little time actually doing. I build rolling stock and plan a layout that will never get builr. Take a look at my KZbin channel.
@randd10776 жыл бұрын
I would be very disappointed with some of the layouts. I know they have to be transported from show to show but you can see some of them falling apart. Back drops are falling off platform edges are lifting and separating. Where roads and kerbs come together they are just stuck down with no care or defined lines and lifting. Buildings are leaning over and split. If my layout was like that and i was going to show it at a public event i would feel very guilty and ashamed. Some of it just takes a little PVA glue or wall paper paste some of it requires a bit more remedial work. Operation of Locos is poor as well that also needs to be addressed and perfected for these shows. Yes plenty of cats and bikes. Any way thats my observations.

Personally if a video has music I usually turn it off as I think it distracts from what you are trying to show, same if the "babble" is too loud so just carry on doing what you do and get what you want out of it. People should (and I think most do) understand that you are sharing your hobby with them, you're not making theirs for them. All the best :)

I tried the music background on two of my vids, ok I guess but don't think I will do it again. I just do the vids as a record of my builds and the rarer bits on my plants, also it is easier to see my own mistakes when I play them back. I think it was a brave thing to do to speak of your ill health and perhaps a big step in getting better
@danstewstation78396 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's never been something I have tried, sometimes I watch old footage and I can remember conversations around me based on the clips I see. Thank you for the support and subscription too, very much appreciated. I think it may have helped in a way, my wife said to me recently it's been a while since she's seen me as happy which has been a big boost. Thanks again.

Hi, great to see you back. Sorry to hear about your situation, hope things improve for you. Just remember to keep talking to people, especially those close to you. Ive been there so I have some idea where you are coming from. You asked about background noise at exhibitions, you are bound to get conflicting opinions on noise/music. Personally I cannot stand videos with music, but I am one person in hundreds who watch your videos.
@danstewstation78396 жыл бұрын
Thank you John, appreciate the support and advice. It means alot. Thank you also for the feedback, i guess the problem is I try and please everyone and when so many people watch a video it's going to be impossible. I'm going to try one with music (sorry) and see what it's like. If I'm not keen I'll go back to background noise. Thanks again John, all the best
@piccadillymodelrailways6 жыл бұрын
Danstew Station Please remember its your layout and your videos, so do what YOU want. True you wont please everyone, if someone is not so keen they wont watch, no big deal. I enjoyed what I have seen so I can always turn the sound on my TV down cant I? Anyway all the best, things will improve in time, model railways is a form of escape. Indulge and enjoy.

Hi Kelvin. great to see you back and well done for 'coming out' regarding your health :). Mental health is a killer. I am a stress sufferer and have been close to breakdown. I don't think that anyone who has not been there can fully understand. I have also been away from railway modelling for much of this year but I am starting to get back into it now. This year has been a pig with family bereavements etc and my mum finally going into a home for the bewildered. I found an outlet by getting an ebike and riding down the canal towpath over the glorious summer we just had. I found that quite cathartic and I am starting to be in a better place now, getting back to my hobbies again. The buildings look great and I have quite a few Smart Models kits but have not started building them yet as I REALLY need to get the track down first! I found a corner that was simply too tight on the inner loop and so I have had to rip up tat section and make changes, sigh! I look forward to seeing your progress soon :). Ian
@danstewstation78396 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, thank you for the support. Really means a lot to me. I felt it was important to do as it really is a killer as you say and can be overlooked so much. I agree too, if people have not been there it can be difficult to understand. So sorry to hear about your bereavements and your mum. Glad that you found an outlet in the bike. Sounds like fun. That's a shame, always annoying when you find a section of track that needs ripping up and changing. Been there too and it's so disheartening. But well worth it once it is done. Looking forward to seeing your progress too and hope that you are able to get the bug back again too All the best mate

Good to see you back. Seriously hope you get better. Mental Health is an important factor in life. Your subscribers will be here when your ready to get back in to the hobby. Like you, I find model railroading a way to escape"reality" as I put it and i get some relaxation from it. The Metcalfe department store looks good. Very nice kit. Smart models is something I will have to check out. Clint

Thank you so much Clint. Yeah it is definitely a great way to escape reality and relax. Hope you find some things you can use at Smart models, he has amazing kits with incredible detail. Appreciate the feedback Dave. I'm going to Hartlepool next weekend for the railway Exhibition and when I edit the video together I'm going to try it with music instead of the background noise. Check it out when it comes up and let me know if it's any better.
