One does not have to prove the legitimacy of the Church through the Bible, but the legitimacy of the Bible through the Church. "I would not believe the Gospel, did not the Church move me" St. Augustine

Yay, Catholic Church! We're #1! We're #1! We're #1! We are ONE. ONE with the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Creator and Grace and LOGOS. "In the beginning was the LOGOS and the LOGOS was with God and the LOGOS was God." John 1:1. A family of souls. A beautiful tradition. An open, flexible and spacious future, a brilliant and glorious future, guided by the LOGOS. Embracing and transcending earthly affairs. In touch with eternity and infinity. Universal. God bless. Peace on earth and goodwill to all mankind.

Funny, the Catholic Church is always either too confident of salvation or too negative about sin. Just like we are always too rich or too poor, too dogmatic or too broadminded, too secular or too set apart from the world, too pleasure-seeking or too austere, too rationalistic or irrational, the list could go on and on. As Chesterton suggested, the Catholic Church must either be a particularly abominable monster or else it is the one thing that gets things right when everyone else goes wrong.

You are absolutely right. Self-righteousness means nothing to God. The Kingdom of God belongs to children; that is to say children abandoned to faith and humble trust in His own Body, the Church. It is not anything that we do that entitles us to Heaven, but the Baptism which grafts us on to the Son-ship of Jesus Christ in His Incarnation. This Baptism allows us to be saved in the Blood and Water that flowed from His pierced side given to us physically in the most Blessed Sacrament.

Every Catholic arrogantly thinks they're going to Heaven; but they are going to Hell when they die. All of their self-righteousness means NOTHING to God (Isaiah 64:6). But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. - Isaiah 64:6 (KJV)

James 2:18-19 But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.”Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. 19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that-and shudder. you completely misrepresent the Catholic Teaching. I'm curious why you leave verse 10 off of Ephesians 2:8-9, doesn't line up with your theology? vs 10 "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

Sudz 21 Notice verse 10 does not say works save us. Verse 10 simply says we are created to do good works. It does not say those works are necessary for salvation. Verses 8 and 9 clearly state works do not save us. So the logical progression is this; first we are saved by grace through faith and not by works, after we are reborn we are then to do good works and walk in the light but those works do not save us because we were already saved by grace.

..on the cross. Christ and the Church are one body. Human marriage is a symbol of this union. The "mystical body of Christ" is the Church; we are made one with Him in His own precious Body and Blood (on the cross, resurrected from the dead, etc); the same Body and Blood that unites the Church in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar (the Eucharist). The Church is the instrument by which God saves man. Salvation is not through works, it is through the body of Christ, the Church.

You are not responding to what the Church actually teaches. The Church says that we are saved by grace alone. What you do not understand is that the sacraments are the means (channel) by which God sends us His sanctifying grace. Without it, we cannot be saved. It is through Christ's mission, extended throughout time in the Church (which Christ instituted) that we are saved. Salvation is by God alone. The grace that the Church "gives" is from Christ. Christ consummated His love to the Church..

Most protestants would have no problem asking another person to pray for them. The problem that people have is thinking that because the saints are dead, this means that they must be omniscient in order to be able to "hear" our prayers. The problem is that the Church is the mystical body of Christ. This is a real unity; not just imaginary. By the Incarnation and the Eucharist, we are all united as one. This is the foundation for intercessory prayer of the saints; not an alleged "omniscience".

Veneration? You mean the verb "to have respect and reverance for"? There is nothing wrong with that, but I see many Catholics praying to them and asking them to intercede for them instead of just praying to Jesus. 1 Tim. 2:5 "For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus," If you don't actually pray to these saints then I have no quarrel with you.

Also to note, when we consider justification, we also make a point to teach alongside it Rom. ch. 6. because just because grace is extended to you does not mean that you should continue in sin. vs 5-6 says "For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin."

Do you assume that protestants say a prayer and then sit on their butts all day? That is an over-generalization. How can one not believe in the changing power of Christ? I think you misunderstand "once saved, always saved". It is the fact that God completes that which he starts. Realize that there is both a belief component and a commitment component in FAITH. The reasoning is that once a person sincerely (in their heart) acknowledges and professes Jesus as Lord and Savior, admits that they are

It depends on your definition of "justification." Faith apart from works is fruitless, and it does not bring eternal life. Faith is not the only thing required for one to be saved. Works in love must be present as well. And most protestants don't acknowledge any sort of "sanctification" because it implies a process; a process that does not coincide with the whole "once saved always saved" notion.
@DM1LL5T0N31
@DM1LL5T0N31 11 жыл бұрын
Faith alone is an argument of justification; faith, good works, baptism and love all work together afterwards to complete what God has started. Otherwise known as sanctification. Its funny because either side of the argument you are on, the outcome is the same.

How do you know that they were redeemed by His Blood? Where is that in scripture? Under what authority do you canonize them as saints? Adam and Eve lost their status as citizens of the Kingdom of God in the Old Testament. They were thrown out. That is why we all inherited original sin and must be baptised to be saved. If faith alone saved, why would Christ command that we must be baptized? (See Acts 2:38, Romans 6:3-4, Col. 2:11-12, etc.). Baptism is a necessary work in order to be saved

That is exactly what I said in my first comment. Grace alone saves. Our good works are nothing but the incarnation of His grace and Love in our lives. Our faith as well. Both are proper responses to God's grace, and this is the teaching of the Catholic Church.

They lost paradise. Anything else that you read into it is your own idea, not the teaching of scripture (it might be some authority of tradition, but it certainly is not scriptural authority). In response to Romans 8, you are reading it withouth any sort of foundational understanding. Your argument is very ambiguous and raises many questions: do you believe in predestination? What does that mean? Do we have "free will?" If Jesus "justifies you," then you will keep his commandments and not sin.

Oh now the second commandment LIE comes out. Look in any Catholic Bible Exodus 20 and Deut 5 read the same. No deletions. So Christ spits out the lukewarm a and then welcomes them to heaven. Now that makes sense.

This "once saved, always saved" idea is a theological and philosophical nightmare. 1 John 5:13 doesnt support what you claim. "Ye may know that ye MAY have eternal life, and that ye MAY believe on the name of the Son of God." That doesnt sound like the language of certainty to me. Take a look at Matthew 24:13. Christ has abundantly provided for our salvation, but that does not mean that we will receive it. This idea of assurance of salvation is proven wrong by the fact that Adam and Eve lost it.

Why don't you quote a little further down in 1 John 5:16 It talks about Continual repentance If any man see his brother sin a sin [which is] not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
