What if defender goes up and attacker passes to his teammate before the line the it is offside?

US Soccer standard is to use the build-out line (about where the yellow line is) as the offside line in 7v7 (U10s). Under that rule it wouldn't matter if the defenders move up because runs starting behind the line are always onside. Even if your group is older or doesn't use a BOL I think it's okay to give the attackers that advantage here so they can feel some success. When they master the drill you can add offsides later. You could have the resting defender stand on one end of the line to play the attackers onside, if you really want to be authentic. :-)

I did this recently and doing that means one had to understand he should go right and one left, however both my cms like to be able to to botn sides! Plus I find when you don't distringuish between a CDM and a CAM with they often both bomb forward leaving you open to trouble on a defensive transition! For me best to have a CDM and a CAM with CDM covering the CAM. However I guess it depends on the qualities and weak spots of the two in question!

I love this! I've been looking for ways to help my team get better at building out of the back. How do you rotate players in and out to let everyone get a chance to practice? Especially during the early phases of the drill. I have young kids that get easily distracted if they have to stand around too long.

When I do these types of drills I break the team up into 2 groups and have the other kids do a different activity with the assistant coach. Otherwise, you're right, you do have kids standing around doing nothing and they disengage.

I have no idea what instructions to give my kids for this rondo. is there a pattern? does a player have to move after passing? to another corner? what? makes no sense....

It's keep away in each square. The rotation varies of where you send your defensive player.
