I bought a 1992 brand new from a settlement i got, i was just 18 and had a chick magnet lol, long story short after about 50k on it, it started costing me money .sensors, wiring issues, battery, alternator, ckutch cable , brakes &rotors to hen at 80k the timing belt broke while i sat in traffic under the hot summer Florida sun. I didn't even know some cars had belts.

I would be so concerned doing that because what if that puts the turbo under too much pressure??
@HappyWheelFan20132 ай бұрын
Just don't cap off the hose and you won't have to worry about it really. Just cap off the intake. These cars specifically have a few bad eggs here and there that have the BPV/BOV open under boost on stock tune, which is exactly why they need to be there. Just leave the hose venting to the atmosphere and it'll be kosher 👌

That flutter though lol I bet you can feel the life drain right out of that turbo unit plugging the pressure release hose like that, it doesn't hurt the turbo at all unhooking the hose the car companies run them either back into the intake or exhaust just to reduce noise its about as important as the sound reducing padding they use in cars, but plugging it like that to cause flutter isn't a good idea, it throws the maintenance light in the cluster and all that cool sound you hear is the blades crashing into pressurized air that's kinda like how when you jump or fall into water and it feels as hard as concrete from surface tension, the other part is the exhaust has to escape thru the turbine so it has pressure crashing into each other causing back pressure on the engine and over time...well you will see if you run it with that bov hose plugged like thatl, you want the noise just cut that hose or take it off fully right at the B.O.V. Port that will increase noise without damage to the engine.

before you run it to much do the timing belt! at least its awd and a 91 model year not the janky 90 model year with all the one year only crap on it. Check for boost leaks, change the plugs and check to see if the ecu's good, because it sounds like the ecu is toast.

I just rescued a 93 Talon TSI from its grave. Since 2015 it sat in coworkers backyard. He said "200 bucks and it's yours" sold lol. 118k original miles. His mechanic told him he suspected it jumped timing and bent the valves (common). Got it home, checked and the marks almost dead on (maybe half a tooth difference). Hoping so anyways lol. half a tooth is perfectly fine, I've had as much as 1 1/2 teeth off which causes running issues etc. The biggest Achilles heel on this cars is more timing belt maintenance. I've had 30+ of these cars.

Thinking of a small 14-15ft camper with mine… How much tongue weight do you think you’re running? And how much sagging is there on the rear tires? Truck gets bigger brakes/ better suspension - towing package Car gets bigger brakes/ better suspension - sport packs. Why couldn’t these cars (Sti) tow🫡 Haters always going to hate…
@genslergarage3432 жыл бұрын
around 200-250 tongue weight is the most we’ve run. The sagging is not noticeable. It handles the weight super good. The 2015+ wrx has a 3,500 pound towing capacity with a 300 pound tongue weight. The numbers are scattered on what it really is but those numbers are on the safe side.
@brandonf3865 Жыл бұрын

It definitely sounds like anti-lag or aggressive 2-step which was my first suspicion. However, I pulled the ecm to check for that and bad capacitors. I found it is a stock non-eprom so there's no tuning capabilities.

If the light persists, unhook the ground cable on the battery for 10 seconds or so to force a diagnostic system reset. If that for some reason doesn’t work, clear the code with a code reader. (If you don’t have one many auto parts stores will do it for free)
