Just taking a look. My family came from Clogheen in 1823 and 1825 to just outside Ottawa. It’s a town that holds a special place, almost mythic place in my heart. Thank you so much for posting. I wonder if there is still a fairy tree in the vicinity?

Castletownshend presents as an arch-typical Irish town overlooking its small harbor with a mainly one street town, with row homes to rent with my family staying at the Phenix House for a week, located adjacent to a small store operation, which maintains a diesel pump at the curb for vehicle refueling use. The small church with its family donated stained glass windows and graveyard, tells the Townsend family story connection to the church and town. Contained within the church, immediately behind the right door as you exit, is a lifeboat oar from the RMS Lusitania, which was German sunk off Kinsale Head on the SW Irish shore in 1915. Immediately within the town center is Maryanne's Pub, a locally owned bar and restaurant operation with family-style seating and delightful, daily blackboard-offered food selections presented by Maryanne, a Michelin-rated chef. It's a family-friendly place to roam, and explore the surrounding coastal towns and area, providing a quiet, restful place to sleep and recharge your batteries, while not forgetting the local pets as they promenade the sidewalk, stopping to greet everyone they meet along the way.
