His voice absolutely did not match his appearance. I read a book many years ago called Vantage Hall by Constance Gluyas, and he was my Kingsley Cavanaugh.

Steptoe & Son is my favourite ever comedy followed by George & Mildew and On the Buses. You can see why these two got their own sitcom comedy because these two were easily the best to watch from Man About the House. R.I.P Mildew

Sadly ironic he discusses ‘dying on stage’ in the interview meaning nobody laughed but sad that he literally died on stage 💔

So many of the great guitarists were also studying art. So fortunate to be born with talent but more importantly to have the desire to learn and study, study and practice, practice, practice.

"You call beefburgers 'chipsteaks'?" "Yes It's a regional dialect." "Eh, what region?" "Er, the Channel Islands?" "Really? Well, I'm from Guernsey and I've never heard anyone use the phrase 'chipsteaks'." "Oh, not in Guernsey, no. It's a Jersey expression." "I see."

The thing about Oliver Reed is he was a drinker and an unapologetic one, something that interviewers liked to play up and encourage because it made for interesting television. But he was also very erudite and his stories alone would have made him an excellent source of conversation. He behaved like an arse a lot, but was generous to people who had done him well (buying a man a pub because he promised he would if he ever became rich and famous) or that he had done wrong to (sending flowers to all the police who had to deal with him brawling in a pub one night.) Unfortunately if he didn't think much of you, he could be very dismissive and unpleasant. But that's fairly human I suppose.

When the interviewer said “have you ever died a death in stage” is terrifying to hear in retrospect.x

Incredible the difference just one person can make. His mother and lack of formal schooling allowed him the time to develop his knowledge and skills and then look what happened. A true inspiration.

I remember Ceasarea vibrated more than Sarnia. Made the trip from Jersey many times. I can remember the predecessors...the Brittany, St. Helier. They didn't have stabilizers. They used to roll a great deal.
