How is the latency when engaging the pitch shifter? Do you notice it? It sounds great, but before I splurge, I want to make sure I won't regret it due to a "sluggish feel" or anything. Thanks!
@whytunes2 ай бұрын
NDSP just released a new update that includes a 'transpose' function that's even more responsive than the pitch shifter I used in the video. Would I want to play a whole gig with it? Not really. But a song here and there is totally doable.
@hillie472 ай бұрын
@whytunes I saw they added that, very compelling. As long as some of the compressors have a low pass on the sidechain, or a separate input for it, it sounds like pretty much everything I'd need. Expensive box, but then when you put all the separate devices next to each other, and the ability to have wildly different settings per patch, which is difficult with separate pedals, it all of a sudden becomes a very affordable alternative.

Thanks for the ring mod-tip for the OC-2 setting! That sounds much fatter and closer to the original than the pitch algorithm.

@whytunes2 жыл бұрын
It does everything I need, but my FX needs are fairly simple -- mostly octaver, drive, envelope filter. But I even created a synth-like patch using compressor, octaver, fuzz and chorus, and it sounds massive. But I'm most excited about my main bass tone, which I run through a Noble capture, with a little bit of SVT mixed in. Sound engineers have freaked out about how good my tone is going to the house wherever I go, and that's not an exaggeration.

Hi W, would be better to use Logic plugins for the bass or use an AX8 for recording purposes. For guitar AZ8 has better amp modeling. I like the low end bass sounds. Any suggestions ? If you suggest logic then which of the plugins would be suggested to use? I have a Focusrite 4i4 interface and and AX8. thanks!
@whytunes3 жыл бұрын
I often opt for using plugins when recording, just because it's quicker and also easier to recall a session if you need to make changes to a bass part. I mostly use bass amp sounds as a flavor in addition to the direct sound (maybe 70% direct, 30% amp). I like Plugin Alliance bass amps (SVT, B-15) for classic tube sounds. NeuralDSP is great for heavier modern grind tones.

@whytunes3 жыл бұрын
@@fonklangoryklangory2586 Don't remember the Scarlett, but at those settings with the SD it shows 9.3 ms roundtrip. I personally rarely worry about latency, since I'm either monitoring directly off the Symphony, or I use Low Latency mode in Logic
@fonklangoryklangory25863 жыл бұрын
I understand. That's a lot. I remember Apogee Duet firewire, set to 44.1 at buffer 64, had 7.3ms RTL in Logic Pro X on core2duo Macbook Pro 15 ”2007. I do not understand. Desktop has great preamps, emulations, but for me it is important to work with software monitoring in Logic Pro X and RTL below 7ms. Which interface should I choose?

Strangely I found the Symphony desktop doesn't work with certain Windows 10 applications, most notably the popular OBS streaming software. Also interesting is it wont work with Windows Sound Recorder either. The screen on the Duet 2 was better quality a the blacks look more black. On the Symphony the LCD looks very grey. Of course the Symphony is a touch screen so it might be an unfair comparison.

How is the performance and latency on big projects with many audio and instrument tracks? Can you run low buffer sizes with no issues? For a product that has been on the market for MANY months, this is yet to be covered on youtube in depth for Music production in a DAW, not even by Apogee! How does it compare with the interface you had before this one?
@whytunes3 жыл бұрын
I'm having no issues at all with running low buffer sizes, and it's basically the same as compared to the Focusrite Scarlett and Apogee Duet I had before this. Generally speaking, the bottlenecks that determine how low you can run your buffer are your CPU, RAM, whether you're using SSDs, etc. Of course, if you ever DO need to increase your buffer size, the Symphony has all of its direct monitoring capabilities that make dealing with latency trouble-free.

Did you know it’s not possible to setup the reverb plugin for direct monitoring. That’s the most important thing while tracking. This is big bummer for the whole unit. I am trying to migrate from Apollo platform and got a Symphony Desktop. But I think I am going to return this and get back to my Apollo. This is basic. Their so called mixer doesn’t have a send and return for the reverb, neither can you insert it.
@whytunes3 жыл бұрын
Hey Shyam, I don't know what platform you're on, but I asked Apogee a similar question, and here's what they said, at least as it pertains to Mac/Logic: "Concerning your question about reverb, we should be adding our proprietary Logic integration that's included with the Element and Ensemble into Desktop for the next release. This add the Direct button, so individual channels may be set to either software monitoring or direct monitoring. Another aspect of these features is that, even when you're direct monitoring and in record, the aux sends are still active. That way, you can send a Logic channel to a reverb even when you're direct monitoring. Yes, there's latency on the echo send, but hey, that's what reverb is!"
@chatuugu18023 жыл бұрын
@@whytunes i had the same question, thanks for the answer, but i have to say: even what Apogee says is technically true, it is not at the same time. I mean, because of latency, what you hear from your reverb during recording and what you hear after playback may be different. Yes, you can match it afterwards, but why not just let the Reverb plugin run on DSP as well? And not everybody uses Logic

@jacksp8de2 жыл бұрын
@@chatuugu1802 I know this is an old comment but I have this and an Apollo Twin X because I’m doing a video comparing them. I feel your pain. If you use an apollo for the reverb you still would have to pull it up in the DAW and match the settings to hear it back which is an extra step but the artist can still feel the vibe with no latency as they are recording. You do have the option to print but I wouldn’t print reverb. If Apogee had a DSP reverb that is dual path, man that would solve this. I wish they had pitch correction as well like UAD but I’m just dreaming

Too much money for little use of the effects it comes with , better off getting a bass specific sound processor , and save alot of money

If this were all I used it for, I'd totally agree. Since I also use it for tracking guitars (and sometimes keys), as well as more esoteric FX uses on bass, it was worth every penny. This was more intended as an example of a baseline bass sound, and then to explore from there. Point well taken though.
